I'm so excited! My husband told me that he wanted to get me a printer for Christmas so that I can do edible images! Yippee! However, he says that all the the computer stores have told him that the Canon IP 3000 is being discontinued, and that's the printer that most people are using, from the posts that I have read. Does anyone have any idea what printer I can tell him to get for me, that is compatible with the supplies for edible images? I really really need some advice ASAP so that he can get a good printer for me. Any help will be so appreciated! Thanks!
I have a canon IP 1500 that I use for my edible images. I got it from Walmart for $70 canadian. It works great.
dragonfly,
Where do you get your other supplies for printer? Do you order online from the US or are you happy with a supplier you found here in Canada? I have also asked for a printing system for Christmas however I wasn't sure where I was going to get the papers and colours from.
When I was checking into edible image printers afew months ago, someone on this sight recommended this site. It lists all of the printers you can use along with, edible inks for each, cleaning cartridges, and the icing sheets. I hope this helps you as much as it did me.

I just bought the MP130 from icing images and love it, a little expensive around $300.00 but worth every cent.
Here is another list of inks that go with certain printers.

Tripletmom, I bought my supplies from the states. Tastyfoto art. In total i spent i think around 70 for the ink a paper, and then I had to spend another 15 when i picked it up from the post office. I think next time I will try kopycake, I heard there products are good. I am not sure what the edible paper is suppose to be like, but it seems a little thick to me but this is the first time I have bought some.
I am not sure where in Canada that you can buy these items, if anyone knows please pass it on
I have the canon i9900, which I believe to be the cadillac of cake printers. It costs between $500-$600. It has 8 separate ink cartridges which can be refilled. Refilling the cartridges is quite easy and economical. The printer can also be used for general printing needs as well because the edible ink works on any type of paper including photo paper.
This printer makes beautiful images for cakes with great detail and color. Canon is recommended because of the type of ink delivery technology that they have.
I have had mine a few months and have made many cakes with it and have had no problems with quality and performance. I highly recommend cake printers because they allow you to broaden your design capabilities.
Have your husband check at office depot and best buy....he might be able to find the ip3000 there. If not...I think the ip4000 would be my next choice. I like having the 4 cartridge printer because the ink lasts longer. If you are not planning on using it too much...the ip1500 would be a good one too.
copy cakes has it on there web page that both the ip3000 and the ip4000 are being discontinued....
i was bummed since I finally found them for 72.00 it seemed like a great price.....
im not sure if i will buy now......
If the printers are discontinued, I wonder what kind of problem it will be to find refill supplies? What is everyone going to do that already has one of these printers? Will you have to get a new printer?
I think any 4 cartridge ink refill will work for the ip3000. I think the ip4000 will take any 6 cartridge ink refill.
I think I might PM lisa...i do not think they make the printer she has...but she is still able to order edible ink refills.
