Hello everyone,
I am doing a cake for my son's school and a paid cake for another lady and I have to paint my fondant. I have heard everyone talk about using vodka and gel to paint.
My question is: I know the kids at my son's school will eat the pieces and if I paint them with vodka will that affect them or not?
Please help me........... I am worried and the cake is due tomorrow.
Thanks everyone
Sylvie
as far as I know the reason you use vodka is because the alcohol evaporates as it dries - I personally have never had a problem with it
In addition to what Bakers2 said, I also believe that you will be using such a small amount that it won't make a difference anyway.
If you are very concerned, I believe you can use lemon extract.

As already mentioned, it will evaporate very quickly. Also, you will use such a small amount it would not matter anyway.
Thanks everyone, you know moms they worry. I just needed the reasurance that it was ok. I might just use the lemon extract idea too from lisa. Gonna go check if I have some.
Thanks again
Sylvie
Two things about lemon extract...
1. extracts are alcohol-based anyhow (that's why they work ... you need that moisture to evaporate!)
2. The oils in a good lemon extract actually help smooth out the colour so it is less likely to be streaky, which makes it a slightly better choice than vodka or everclear.
But as was mentioned above, the alcohol evaporates anyhow, and you are using a very tiny amount, so go ahead and use whatever you want!
Oh come on..what's a little vodka going to do!!LOL j/k.
..i would use it, your not using a lot of it and it will evaporate anyways~=
