Cake Corners- The Very Bane Of My Existence
Decorating By Muse Updated 20 Dec 2005 , 10:45pm by candyladyhelen
I like doing cakes with flat sides, squares, rectangles, etc...However, the one thing that prohibits me from doing them is knowing that the corners must also be iced and simply cannot be left all naked and bare. The easiest cover up for ornery bc on corners is the failsafe line of shells or what have you down the side, hiding those little bare niches of cake that just would not stick. It's easy and looks fine. I am not satisfied with it, though. Is there anything you can do to create that smooth seamless look with buttercream on cake corners? Any help is most appreciated!
I am fighting the same battle you are. The article here on CC for icing a square cake helped me. (still a work in progress though)

Hi Muse,
I feel your pain
When I am smoothing with the paper towel, I try to smooth both corners at the same time to get it sharp.
i've never tried the papertowel method.. i just use a knife and lots of hot water... never had to hide my corners...
practice, practice, practice
I'm with Tye--I have found that the hot knife works best for me, too. I use it almost exclusively now.
When I tried the paper towel--they were more rounded looking and I didn't like that look.
Love you avatar, Tye!! I lived in Colorado for 5 years--loved it! Miss it!!
