Thanks to Pinkbunny (and the CC member who inspired hers) for inspiration! I needed something I could do to decorate a red velvet cake that was quick and something cute for the kids. This was very simple to do and it took me just over an hour to do all the decorating. There's a few mistakes to be seen...but for a rushed job, I'm happy with it. Thanks to blittle for her red velvet recipe...delicious!!! And I used the cream cheese/white chocolate buttercream that I found here on CC. Everyone raved about the design, the red velvet & the icing!! It was a hit with both the kids & the grown-ups. Not very often do cake decorators have a super easy decorating job get great compliments...it's usually the ones we slave over and stress about that get the oooh's and ahhh's...lol. So I hit a homerun with this one!! Thanks to CC!!
Hi JennT,
The cake is SO Cute!! You did an awesome job! I'm glad everyone enjoyed it!!

Thank ya'll!! Looking at the picture again...it almost looks as if Santa's got something very important to say....lol His eyes are big and the way the icing is around his mouth, it looks like he's mid-sentence...HA!
Just being silly....Don't mind me...I've just been up all night chasing the gingerbread men & women!! (See the thread in Cookies forum about Gingerbread, etc.)
That's rushed?! Wow! I love it! I love designs that are cutesy christmasy! Super cute!
Merry Christmas,
Heather
Thanks Bulldog & HeatherMari! The red hat, mouth, nose, eyes & "skin" are all MMF. For the "skin"...I just put a tiny bit of orange and worked it in...it looked too peachy so I added a minute (almost) amount of yellow and that did the trick. And I flavored the MMF with creme de menthe...since I was going to use peppermints around the border.
It really was fast work. I already had MMF on hand...so I just separated it out into portions and colored/flavored each. Then frosted the cake...since I didn't have tiime to smooth it, I just swirled it all over the sides...sort of looked like more Santa hair...lol. That went quick. Next, I just cut out pieces of my MMF to the width of the cake....a little bit smaller, actually. The "skin" is sort of like a rectangle with curved sides. The hat was a semi-circle shape...the mouth a small circle...eyes small circles. The nose...just pinched off a bit of the MMF from the flesh colored batch and rolled it in my hand. Placed them on the cake, starting with the hat, working my way down. Then piped the beard with a star tip...pulling it towards me as I went, then lifting off. No real pattern to it...just sort of put some beard wherever it was needed...lol. Then the mustache...same tip. Then the "fur trim" on the hat...same star tip, but using it to make stars.
I can see why it was such a big hit with everyone! It's adorable and looks delicious, too!
