Just got a call for a wedding cake-bride (older and 2nd wedding) will come after Christmas and take a look at ideas. Only about 75 people and simple-I go braindead thinking of simple-always feel I am doing tooo simple-any ideas from anyone? So far only requirements from the groom is chocolate inside-white out!

When I think simple...my first thought is a stacked cake, iced plain or covered in fondant, simple shell border and fresh flowers. Always so elegant, you could dress it up with a ribbon if the bride liked.

This also makes it very easy to match decorations at a reception!

good thought gmcakes! That was mine also, say 10" 8" and 6" stacked w/fondant. Simple...somewhat, add fresh flowers or ribbon, maybe some swiss dots...and it would be enough for that many if you serve the top layer also.

hummm...just depends on what her idea of "simple" is. Is she looking for simple cake flavors, fillings etc. or does she want something that looks casual-simple?

Your wedding cakes are beautiful! Let her see the pics of cakes you've done and go from there.

Good Luck!

I was thinking along the lines of the square cakes with the ribbon-I think those look elegant and simple. I just wanted to make sure I am on the right track as others with a 2nd wedding. I do know there will be a sitdown dinner so I don't want to make it to sugary and sweet-I think it would be tooo heavy-alot of the guest are older etc. Not that I am knocking being older-I am on the fasttrack myself-I just mean it's not the early 20's crowd...

I like gmcakes suggestion also.

Older people tend to like very simple for a second marriage.

I love the square shape idea. I think smooth icing with the ribbon on the bottom of each tier would look really nice. You could also use edible pearls...that is simple yet very elegant. I do not think you could go wrong with the pearls. icon_smile.gif

OK-IT WILL BE A SQUARE CAKE! I am very happy with it and the design I picked she just loved. Now I have a question-HOW DO I ATTACH RIBBON TO THE CAKE????

When I do ribbon around a cake, I simply wrap it around the cake and secure with icing. I do it before my bottom border is in place and then the border will also help hold it in place.

A word of caution:
I do not like to work with wire edge ribbon on my cakes. It is harder to make lay down when placing on the side of your cake, it has a "memory" from being on the spool and is very hard to straighten!

I have nylon ribbon-I figured while wire is great to work with on flower arrangements and whatnot -didn't figure it would hold up well on a cake-even though this will be square it would be my luck the wire would break through going around the corners etc. Thanks for the tip!

Hi, Nanni! I like the cake. It is simple and elegant. But I am a little biased by all of your work. I love all the cakes that you have done!! And the things that you add make each cake one of a kind in my eyes!! Keep up the fantastic work.

Your cake turned out so nice! Looks a bit more than simple to me, love the way your greenery is on there with the flowers.
