Hi there!
I made a sort of 3D puppy last nite and I somehow thought to take a 'before' pic prior to my applying the icing. I had PM'ed HollyPJ for directions on how to do this cake (Thank you!!!) and used that as the basis for my cake. I am posting this so that perhaps it might help someone else at a later date.
Here are the pre-assembled pieces before I iced them:
very nice/cute!
(and speaking for the guys and the boy-dogs, tell me why oh why must women always dress up dogs w/ bows?!?!)
Oh Dougie-wougie...you don't like the pretty little bows? And to think I almost added pink claws as well!
Seriously though, it was either the bow or a rhinestone collar but I was running out of time so the bow won out!

Doug, I have a little boy dog that has to get hair cuts (okay I just get him shaved) but I refuse to put bows on his ears. I also won't let him wear clothes.
Very cute doggie!

Really cute cake!!! Thanks for the how-to K'ly
Those before pictures are such a help! Thanks so much.
And you KNOW! the puppy is gorgeous!
Wow, thanks for the great pictures!! My bf just got a dog and I want to make him a puppy cake for his puppy open house (you won't believe how many ppl want to see this dog!) and now I have a better visual for it! THANKS!
Doug, your comment cracked me up. You'd get a kick out of the number of "dress-your-dog" stores there are around me. And for the record, I threatened to dump my bf if he ever tried to dress his dog up with anything more than a bandana around the neck!
I love the puppy!!! Has anyone out there ever done a cat/kitten like this? I have to do one for next weekend and am at a loss as to how to get started.
I've never done one of these, but I would think you could make a cat easily enough.
Make the nose part shorter, almost flat to the face.. For the ears stand pieces of cake up on it's head (cut to shape), maybe even use dowels or something to hold them in place, then have the tail come around the side of the cake, so it's longer.
That, or you could just use the basic shape, cover in fondant, air brush, etc. Then make fondant ears and a tail. Maybe even put the tail on wire so you can have it up in the air, or curled or something.
Just a few ideas. I promise it looks doable in my head.
Good luck!!!
Holly

Wow, thanks for the idea. I wondered how this was done. Do you think you can pm me with the instructions.

Tripletmom, your puppy is adorable !!!!
Dogwood, I have done a cat and kittens and also tiger cubs. There pictures are in my photos. The cat was done using 2 round cakes (wonder mold or bowl would also work for body)and one loaf cake. By cutting a round cake in half, layering the two halfs together and notching the front so it would rest on top of the loaf cake, the front of the loaf cake was sculpted down to create the front paws. The other round cake was used to make the back paws ( top third of round cake was cut off and then cut in half and notched to make back paws), and tail.
I didn't have the small round ball pan at the time to use as a head so I baked a cake in a cappichino cup and sculpted it for the head. For ears I used a homemade cookie that I cut in the shape of ears and inserted toothpicks in to attach. Hope this makes sense and helps, now I was a newby at the time and would I ice different now than I was able to then but the basic shape still holds. The other way to do it is if you have a 3D lamb pan it pretty much gives you the shape, I used it to make my tiger cubs.
Hope this wasn't to rambling. No matter how you do it let those creative juices flow and it will be amazing.
freddie thank you so much for the instructions. Your cat and kitten cake is what I was looking for, I hope mine turns out as well as yours. I will post my pictures when I finish. By the way your tiger cub cake was really cute too! Thanks again.
