I was wondering if anyone has tried using moldable chocolate for figures instead of fondant or gumpaste. I was watching Walt Disney's Holiday special on food network and they make all of their figures and accents from chocolate...and from what I can see it seems alot easier that fondant or gumpaste. I searched the forums and came up with nothing, so I thought i would ask...I am going to try it this weekend, but i wanted to know if anyone had tried it.

Here is a recipe for it...just in case you want to try it.....
It is too easy.....or so it seems.

Moldable Chocolate

Ingredients and Preparation:


10 ounces of chocolate (chopped chunks or chips)

1/3 cup light corn syrup

Note: the chocolate can be substituted with almond bark, or colored candy disks to create different colored flowers

Melt the chocolate in a microwave for 1 minute. Stir. If chocolate is not completely melted, return to the microwave for 30 seconds at a time and stir until smooth. If you don't have a microwave, place the chocolate in the top of a double broiler over hot water and stir until melted.

When the chocolate is melted, add the corn syrup and blend.

Pour the mixture onto a waxed paper sheet.

Spread the chocolate with your fingers until it's about 1/2 inch thick.

Cover loosely with waxed paper and let it stiffen for at least a couple hours or overnight. The chocolate will become very pliable.

You can also use a bag of candy melts and 1/3 cup of corn syrup. Melt candy melts, mix in corn syrup, spread on wax paper and let sit over night. Wilton calls it Candy Clay. icon_smile.gif

This is all new to me, I made some today and it turned out really well....it tastes like tootsie rolls. I am going to make all the decorations for my BIL cake "Dallas Cowboys" theme. i will post pics when I am done


Bigcatz, I stored mine in a plastice baggie....oh, yea and I made several chocolate flowers for another project I am working on.

I tried molding with chocolate once and hated it. My hands are too hot. I kept having to put my gymnast in the fridge. Of course, it is hot 90% of the time in Texas so I am sure that didn't help. If you find a trick to it, let me know.

talmas, when it is hot here, I go to the basment to work with chocolate. Maby that helps you as well.

Basement. I wish we had basements out here. They don't do that anymore in this area. I guess it cost to much to dig in clay soil. I am too cheap to have the A/C running all the time so it is usually pretty hot in my house. Maybe I will try again since it is cooler right now.

Thanks for advice. I would prefer to use chocolate.

Another idea is to have cold water with some ice in it and to dip your hand in it from time to time - of course you have to whipe them a bit before you move on.

I almost always have cold hands so I don't have that problem but it helped me once at the sea side when I was doing chocolate leaves on a very very hot summar day.

I live in an old apartment in a block that was built before the world war - everything had basment back thereicon_wink.gif Maby you coul try garage if you have it...
