I am making a 3-d dump truck cake for someone that is going to travel with it 3 hours. I warned her that I didn't know if it would make it that far and she said she didn't care. My question...On the back part of the dump truck on the outer edges on each side I am a little concerned that the edges are going to fall off during the ride. Would it help if I stuck straws into the cake diagonally to the center? I know this may sound confusing. I just don't want it to fall.

build the bed (dump part) as a separate cake supported by a cake board. (variation on how do standard stacked tiers)

I am wondering if you cut down scewer sticks and then put them in the cake to hold it in place. I did this with a dice cake that I had to travel with and it did not move at all. After putting the sticks in you can cover the top with icing so you can not see the sticks. Good luck!

I agree with Doug--do it as a separate cake, board and dowel it.

I also used separate cake boards cut to size on my dice cake...it will make your life so much easier! icon_smile.gif
