Hello All,
I need some quick fix help. I am at work and my husband called to let me know that the face on my Thomas the Tank Engine cake is sliding slightly. I made the face from a circle of gumpaste with pieces of gumpaste for the features and then covered in a thin layer of fondant. It was kind of heavy but I thought it would be okay. I covered the spot on the cake with buttercream and then put the face on. I don't have a whole lot of time once I get home from work to fix it before I have to deliver it. Any ideas?!? I have some leftover royal icing, could I take the face off and put some of that on or would it not dry?
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated,
Thank you,
Heather

My first thought it to figure some way to secure it inside the cake. With a toothpick or spagetti noodle maybe? You would obviously have to let the client know about it.

Is there any way your hubby can sort of support it with a toothpick or a dowel until you get home to look at it? At least that way it won't slide anymore.

My other thought is where are you storing it? Is it in an area too warm for the buttercream? (Although since it's snowing here in MI, I can't imagine ANYWHERE being too warm at the moment.)

Sorry I can't be of more help. These are the only things I can think of.

Can he take it off before it slides completely off?? I would try to do that and then try to put it back on with royal. Even though the royal won't be completely dry tonight, it should still adhere, unless it's just too heavy? Is it too late to stick a small piece of spaghetti in there or something for extra support. Depending on how hard the gumpaste is, that might not work.
Good luck!

if it's still moving when you get home, I would definately switch to royal for your "glue" ... just don't use too much and it should set up pretty quickly.

Thank you all for your help! My husband refuses to even touch it so I have to wait until I get home. He said it wasn't that bad so hopefully it will be okay. I think I will try the royal trick. Depends on if it would make it worse to take it off or not. We'll see!
I'll let you know what happened Monday!
Thanks again,
Heather
