Need Ideas For Thomas & Friends Cake
Decorating By ccr03 Updated 21 Aug 2013 , 4:49am by justdesserts
I am so excited. I got my first non-family, non-friend cake order today!!! My nephew's classmate's mom loved the cake I made for my nephew's birthday and wants me to make a cake for her for Dec. 26. Her son loves Thomas & Friends, so she wants me to do something on him. I'll check the message boards, but any ideas????????? (I also wanted to share my exciting news!!!)
no ideas here except to say check the kid's b-day boards if you have time. So many wonderful past cakes to look at for inspiration.
Mainly I just wanted to say congrats on you first real order.

Congrats! That first order is always exciting. No suggestions for Thomas except what you already know, check the galleries here. Also, be aware of copyright issues. You may be able to design something with a Thomas feel without infringing. I don't think most of us have to be too worried but it is always good to be aware. Maybe try a Google image search too. Good luck, I'm sure you'll do something fabulous!
thank you so much for the input!! I can't wait to start putting some ideas together & post a final product.
I did my son the James No. 5 engine out of the Choo-Train Cake pan...it can be Thomas as well...see my photos for what it looked like. Good luck and congrats!
If you look at my photos, I did both Thomas and Percy cakes for my boys a couple years ago. If I had it to do over again, I would have put the train on top of a round or sheet cake, and made it look like a train track, but I didn't think of it at the time.
Congrats on your first order! I know how exciting and nerve wracking that is. Good luck with everything!

I did a Thomas cake a couple of weeks ago. I, like Melissa said, would put it on top of a sheet cake if I ever made it again. The pic is in my photos. Good luck with your cake and congrats on your first order!!

I have a few Thomas cakes in my photos as well. You could do a BCT or gel transfer...you could do an edible image or use a cake kit. You could do a 2 tier cake with a Thomas cake kit on top. Then you could decorate the tiers with primary colors. Hope that helps.
Same as you, I took on the challenge but really didn't know what to expect. Wish I had discovered CC before that!! Anyhow, the night before I didn't think I could pull off frosting, so I turned to fondant. It just seemed easier to me. You can see my picture. One thing that really boosted my confidence and brought lots of compliments was dressing up the cake board. I made bushes and a lake, just like the Thomas train map board. Also, the kid's name in the smoke puff really seemed to be a crowd pleaser. (You can't see the lake in my pic, it's behind the tender). I lined the lake with rocks (chocolate covered raisins.)
has anyone saved the Thomas cake picture from , "top train/ Thomas cakes" on the home page couple of weeks ago, it was the first picture that all engines are coming out from station.
Please give me the link of it, it was very impressive cake, I just need the idea of it
Thanks
