Help Please!

I'm trying to put a DOS together for those of us in the Southern Ontario area because it sounds like a great idea, BUT ... I've never even been to one!

Any suggestions would be welcome! Pitfalls to avoid, things to keep in mind... topics that are really popular (or are duds), ways to set it up, WHATEVER!

I expect it'll be a small group, but I'd really like everyone to come away from it feeling like they got something out of it!

TIA!

I would advise that you have a clear cut schedule and stick to it. You can always PM tcturtleshell. She did a DOS here and it was great. She could probably help you out.

I just attended my first and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a great way for everyone to get to know each other but also learn new things. It was fri. night and Sat and Sun. It was located at a hotel so those that where traveling could stay the weekend. The meals were catered in and ofcourse LOTS of desserts. They had meal times but most of the desserts and drinks where out the majority of the time. There were guest demo's and classes and items for purchase through a family run store. We even had fundraising auctions on the last day. Because it was done through our MI ICES chapter, we did hold a business meeting as well.

Depending on how many people will be attending, I would check into different options as far as number of days, locations, etc.. You want to keep it affordable.

Ooh! I've never heard of that. What all is involved? I'm sure there are enough people in Eastern PA to put one together. What a great idea!

Basically it's putting the word out to see how many are interested in coming to your DOS, then confirming with each that they are definitely planning to attend. Next would be to work with each person who will be going to the DOS to see what they'd like to have shown or to what they'd like to learn or if they've mastered an art in decorating, i.e. roses, gumpaste, applying fondant, etc, then having them do the demonstration at the DOS. Get everyone's addresses to mail information to them regarding where the DOS will be held, include driving maps to the location, agenda and anything else you find would help with your DOS. If you're planning on providing refreshments, you may want to ask some of them to bring their favorite dish along with them if possible. Or you could make reservations at a restaurant and everyone go dutch treat.

These are just some idea and Tcturtleshell can elaborate on this much better than I since she host the one at her home .. and btw, we had a GREAT time!!
