Does anyone have the KA Professional Series Mixer? And is it worth the price difference? Gonna get one tomorrow but unsure which one to get.

I have Pro 600 -- moved up from my mom's very old hand-me-down sunbeam mixmaster (which she had painted turquoise..all the rage in the late 50's/early 60's).

I love it for almost everything....it doesn't do little batches -- a 6 quart bowl is a big thing to fill. So still need either a handheld or small stand mixer for those.

I love my KA Pro 6!!! I have to agree with Doug, small batches are a problem, but I don't do many small batches of anything anymore, so the bigger the better. For me anyway.

Is the KA Pro 6 the one with the chrome handle in the back. The one I saw the bowl rested on prongs that came off the neck. The bowl did not rest on the base as in the regular KAs.

I love my pro 6 also, but my daughter in law preferr's the regular KA with the tilt head, but they both work great. I think it is a matter of preferrence.

OK, is the KA 6 worth the price difference? They have a $50.00 rebate on the KA 6. The reason I am looking at the KA 6 is I made cookie dough over the weekend and darn near fried my handheld. Does the KA 6 have a problem with heavy or thick doughs? Sorry for all the questions just wanting to make sure I get one that can handle the workload.

i think it is. any chance to combine rebate w/ %-off coupon (such as the 20% off coupon from Linens and Things in past Sunday's paper)?

I've had a K6 for a year--an upgrade from a 4qt. that I've kept as a backup. I love the K6--no more powdered sugar eruptions when I make a double batch of buttercream icon_biggrin.gif

Yes, I think you can combine the rebate with the 20% off coupons from Linen's N Things, Bed Bath & Beyond, Kaufmann's, etc. because I don't see a $ amount that has to be spent to get the rebate.

My understanding of the ProLine is that they have metal gears, not polyester (plastic), so they are meant for hard work & years of service.
I can attest to the fact that with the dough hook in place, I can mix the toughest of recipes--no fail cookie dough, gingerbread cookie dough, MMF, and NOT have to "mix in the last of the flour/powdered sugar by hand" . You are not supposed to use the dough hook on a setting higher than 2, so that tells you how powerful that motor is thumbs_up.gif

Enjoy your new toy when you get it!

I LOVE my KA Pro 5.5 It helps that it was an Xmas gift, but it's the Ultimate for me, since I can't afford to buy a Larger Hobart (those things run forever). I'm pretty sure I've used my Pro in the last year, more than all the people in my family who have "regular" K.A.'s have since they bought theirs, combined.

I have the Pro 600 as well and I love it.

My husband has a hammer that he has had since he was an apprentice builder many years ago....he loves that thing....and he has made it VERY clear that no one is to touch it. I always thought that was a little strange. That was until I got my KA....now NO ONE is allowed to touch my mixer except little ole me!!! icon_biggrin.gif

Was it worth the money? You bet!!!

Thanks everyone for your input. You have pretty much made my decision for me. The KA 6 it is. Will let everyone know when I use it and my opinion of it later today. Got to make some stuff for a Christmas party at work. Cannot wait to get it.

Haven't gotten it yet. Things have been kind of hectic here because of the ice storm we had last week. Hope to get it this week. Its a KA 5 not 6, I thought it was a 6 but its not.

just wondering about this ka6...

I have a KA professional HD with the lift bowl (not a tilt head)
It has a 475 watts.

bought it at costco for $230 and it came with a coupon for an extra 5 qt bowl.
wasn't sure at the time if that was a good deal but haven't seen one so low since.

Do I have a good work horse?

based on research at costco's and KA's websites it looks like you have special for the club version of their 5qt. mixer.

The Pro600 is 6qt and 575w

but it still looks like a really good deal especially since you are getting the extra bowl (a near must to have) for free. It's normally $50.

I am just wondering if the price difference is worth it. The KA 5 has 450 watts vs the regular KA with 325 or 350 watts. Of course the KA 5 comes with a $50 mail in rebate which I don't guess is too bad. Anyway I will decide tommorrow becaue thats when I am going to get one or the other.Appreciate everyones input you have been a big help.

Get the best you can afford. If the 450 watt one is in your budget, that's the one you should pick up. You can never have "too much mixer power" icon_wink.gif

I have a kitchen aid commercial model I got referbished on Ebay 3 years ago for $250. I love it. I have really abused it sometimes making 25 batches of icing. Its still going. In fact this years purchase is going to be a large commercial mixer.
