What size decorating bag do you use most often?
Do you use a special size for a specific frosting?
Anything else to share?

I find that I use the 14in bags most often for decorating and am just wondering if I am missing out on anything icon_lol.gif I'm curious what size everyone else uses for decorating or other applications.

Thanks for your input thumbs_up.gif

depends on what I am doing small for detailing, I like the larger bags so I do not have to refill as often!

I also use the largest ones I can get. I hate refilling!

I have two bags that I use a majority of the time. I like the 18 inch for most of my colors or decorating icing. For my icer tip I like the 21 inch bag. If I get into small detail for a small amount of color I like the 12" bags.

I like the disposable for all of my bags except the icer tip. I like the ease of clean-up and it is worth the extra cost to me in the time I don't have to clean bags. However for my icer I like other bags because I can grip them better.

For small detail work I like to use the 8", but generally I use the 12.

The bags I use for my main color are usually the 16", and I use the 8" bags for accent colors. (I hate to refill bags, too!)

The big one, I think its the 16", for the icer tip. I cover my cakes first with the big icer tip and then smooth.

I also have a couple of small ones (can't remember what size) and a 12".

It depends on what I am doing..if I am doing a lot of different colors, I still like to just use good old fashion cones made with parchment paper! (especailly when I am using a lot of star tips..) I just take the tip out and throw away! (I hate refilling too!)

but for general decorating, I also like the number 12. it fits my hand well.

Do you all just toss them in the dishwasher too?

I've never put my bags in the dishwasher. I don't suppose I knew that was an option. How do you get them to stay open so that all of the icing gets out?

I rinse them off first and wash them inside out. I also wash my tips in those little net bags you can buy (Just hang them in the dishwasher).

I hang the bags upside down, from the top rack in the dishwasher, with those plastic clothes pins..works great!

If I am using alot of small different colors then I use the Parchment cones.

When I feel really lazy, I use the disposable bags.

For the icing tip I use Ateco #21...love it to death.

If I'm doing two or more cakes and they have some of the same colors, then I use the featherweight #16...don't like filling the bags either.

MrsMissey,

I put my bags in the dishwasher also and they were falling over. I read from another topic with you giving the tip about the clothes pins and I tried it and the bags stayed put.

Thanks for the tip...please keep them coming thumbs_up.gif

I only use Keeseal decorating bags. I like to by the big 18 inch and then I can cut them smaller if I need to. I hate having to refill bags. Also I love using larger tips for borders and the bigger bags work better for this. I think I am the only one that checked this bag in the survey...oh well, to each their own! icon_smile.gif

I only use parchment and I am all over the map as to size. I forget what the exact sizes are but I have two different sizes of triangles and sometimes I cut those in half to make even smaller bags depending on what type of work I'm doing.

The smaller bags are easier on my wrist and I've got hot hands too. Since I mostly use SMBC, the icing tends to survive better in smaller bag.

The only thing I ever use a full-size triangle for is when I'm doing icing dams on large wedding cake tiers because those are piped fast.
