I'm doing a princess castle for my daughter who will be 1 in a few days. I've decided that I want the smash cake to be a round pillow with a tiara on it. I've read some posts on pillow cakes, and it seems that most people use fondant. Will it come out nicely if I use buttercream? I want her to be able to get to the cake easily, fondant is a little tough. Also, any ideas on how to do the pillow and make a tiara? I'm fairly new to decorating. Everything I've ever done is self taught. Thanks.

Some here made a tiara and she made a design, Taped it to a round coffe can and layed waxpaper over design. Then she went over design with royal icing.

Fro the cake maybe use a 1/4 sheet. Cut that in 1/2 and stack on top of each other. then make your angles to look like a pillow. I do not see why you can not use buttercream Use a crusting buttercream.

Hi,

I didn't make a pillow cake, but I did make a tiara. It is in my photos. I used a template I found and piped it with candy melts onto wax paper. When it dried enough not to run, I put it on a big crisco can and let it dry. It was really easy!

I was wondering the same thing as coolchc21. I have never seen a template for this, and I would really like to make one at some point.

I just did a castle and a tiara for my neices first birthday. It was my second cake I ever did without any classes. Check out my pics and let me know if it is something you are interested in and I can tell you what I did and help you along the way the best I can.
