I have an order to make a Christmas cake for a friend of mine, she wants a nativity scene. I was planning to use the house pan for the manger, and I have some little nativity figures from Walgreens. I've made this house pan cake several times for family, but I've never frosted the back side of the cake because I always lay it on it's back to cut the cake. Does anyone else do this or do you frost the back??

I'm making "Santa's Workshop" this weekend with tihs pan and plan on frosting the back side. If you were to lay it flat then I wouldn't. Just my 2 cents worth.

I agree--if it's standing up, I'd frost the back. It will look nice and keep the cake fresh.

One thing, if you've never stood that house up before, (and let me just say I had several that I wanted to stand up that fell over!), it's important to use a firm cake recipe, and it helps to cool that cake upright--even if you have to prop it up.

Good luck--can't wait for the pics!

Thanks Chris & Jamie! I really appreciate your input. Looks like I'll be needing a little more buttercream when I make this one! LOL
