Anyone seen or done a cake for a child's birthday with a gymnastics theme? I'm thinking of doing a couple of little tumblers out of fondant. Maybe one on a balance beam and the other on a mat in splits but would sure love to see some examples and hear your ideas. Pictures would be even better! lol

That sounds adorable! Make the top of the cake look like those big blue padded mats they use...

This is not one of my best cakes but I made some gymnast out of candy clay. I did this back when I didn't know what I was doing. It is in my gallery. It is the star cake. One was on a balance beam and another was doing a back bend on a mat. I had bought some people molds which made it easier. This was the only time I have used the molds and I have never tried them with fondant. If you want a gymnast standing on a balance beam, my advice would be to use some uncooked spaghetti or toothpicks. I would have it in the leg going through the balance beam into the cake for stability. Also, I only use 50/50 fondant and gumpaste. I have had so much trouble with fondant cracking. After my mermaid's stomach cracked, I switched to the mixture and haven't had any problems.

I have a small cake in my photo album that simply has the word 'gymnastics' on it. It was a quick cake made for the bake sale. I'm making one tomorrow that will have 2 hand prints made from fondant and the words "Got Chalk?" I'm going to sprinkle powdered sugar all over it.

I did one about a year ago...I did a really cute edible image on a sheet cake. My daughter is having a gymnastics party January 15th and this is what I am doing for hers. I will be doing round stacked cake with 3 or 4 tiers depending on how many people we have. For the topper...I will be making an edible image topper with my daughter in her gymnastics leotard. I will probably put some curly ribbon on top as well. I am going to decorate each tier with really bright colors. This is probably not what you had in mind...but I usually do something really wild and different for my daughter...it just fits her personality! icon_smile.gif Hope you will post pics of whatever you do. icon_razz.gif

How fun! Maybe you could put a little set of uneven bars, or a beam on the cake. If the child is competitive - make a set of 'cards' with the score 10.0 As an ex-gymnastics judge - I love the idea of the cake.

I hope you'll share the finished project with us.
