Everyone here is always so knowledgeable, I thought this would be the perfect place to ask this question. I'm going to be purchasing an airbrush. I haven't used one in a really long time & then it was for paint. Do any of you have a suggestion as to what model is best for moderate use or one that you've used before and LOVED?

Any suggestions welcome icon_smile.gif

Get the Airmaster by KopyKakes. It was specifically designed for cakes, is well made and an overall great machine.

Some features you NEED when airbrushing cakes (the Airmaster has 'em all!):

* low air pressure ... don't want to blow your icing right off the cake!
* small gravity-fed colour cup ... biger cups just waste colour, and the low air pressure you need to use will not be enough for a siphon fed cup
* double action (you can control the flow much better!)
* food safe colours... and cleaner... if you buy a NEW hobby airbrush, make sure you clean it out REALLY well... who knows what they used on it in production? Don't ever use a used airbrush on cakes ... you cannot guarantee you get all of the (potentially) toxic paint out of every cranny of the airbrush! (but you could use a compressor if it has a low enough pressure setting)

I've never heard of anyone who has regretted buying this airbrush (though I have heard MANY stories about other cheaper units ... jst not worth the hassel!)

I agree with MelC 100%. My hubby got me one as an early Christmas present, and I love it, and I had never used an airbrush before. I ordered mine direct from Kopy Kake. They were very friendly curtious, and it was shipped out and to me in only a couple of days, and I live on the opposite side of the country. But of course it wasn't so close to Christmas. One word of advise, is you may want to order extra colors with it, as you only get red, yellow, and blue with it. I am not sure where you live, but if you have alot of humidity, you may want to order the moisture trap.

Thanks for the advice. I'm in Rochester, NY so we really only have humidity a few months of the year. What coloring do you use in yours cake77? Do you have to order it from Kopy Kakes or can you use the Americolor? I'm assuming (which gets me in trouble sometimes) that you could use the Americolor but diluted.

ONLY use AIRBRUSH colours in your airbrush ... other colours contain various additives which will clog your airbrush (even diluted) adn the pigments are often not ground fine enough to pass through the airbrush properly! Americolor makes airbrush colours (I think) but don't mess around with anything not designed ofr your airbrush (operative word here is MESS!)

I ordered my colors from Kopy Kake when I ordered the airbrush. As MelC said you only want to use airbrush colors. They are specialy made for the airbrush. I don't live so far from you. I live in Allegany County, a small town called Friendship.

I also forgot to add that you may want to think about ordering airbrush cleaner when you order your airbrush. You need it to give it a thorough cleaning.

I just got KopyKake colors off of Ebay. Check it out first, as I got to pick whatever colors I wanted and it was cheaper than retail.
