I need any suggestions that you can come up with..
I need to know the best way to cover red velvet crumbs...through a crusting egg white bc icing.
I have done two layers of icing and a few specks still show through.

is there any thing that can be powered over it to help make it whiter?
maybe powered sugar or what?!! I smoothed it with a Viva towel....

It is finished except I am not satisfied with the stuff that does show through....
It is due tomorrow....

on a different thread......I hate red velvet!!!!!

If it were me, I'd probably put another coat of frosting on. Or slap some strategically placed decorations on it.

The only thing I've found to solve this is just keep adding layers of frosting. Put another layer on...sit in the fridge for 10-15 minutes max...take it out and add another layer...keep doing it until you no longer see any flecks of crumbs. Time consuming, but it works. This happened to me with both a red velvet cake w/cream cheese frosting & a dark chocolate cake w/cream cheese frosting. Getting crumbs in the first couple of coats of frosting just seems unavoidable to me when it's a red or chocolate cake with a light colored or white frosting. The decorations are a good idea too! Maybe some dots or something on the sides? Hope it works out for ya! icon_biggrin.gifthumbs_up.gif

I just did a Red Velvet cake today...I put a crumb coat on and let it sit until it crusted over and then I put on the to coat of icing. No problem with crumbs. I sprinkled the cake with red edible glitter flakes.

I used a Cream Cheese icing though!

lol icon_lol.gif I've wished this at times myself..lol. And the red sprinkles are a good idea if ya don't want to fool with it anymore....like red sugar or jimmies or the glitter MrsMissey mentioned. I'll have to remember that next time I have this problem! thumbs_up.gif

Ive done Red Velvet Cake a couple of different ways and it comes out Great.

1) I cover the White cream cheese with chopped nuts. Chopped Nuts on the side and then decorations on the top of the cake. If you have the speckles on the top then you can sprinkle some nuts on the top of the cake if you like.

2) I have crumbled up some red cake crumbs and put that on the side of the cake just as I have done the chopped nuts.

Now my decorations with the nuts and red cake crumbs were intentional but you can certainly use them for the speckles. And don't forget to do a bottom and top border to top it off.
