Hi, are you talking about doing an edible image or actually creating the picture with frosting?

If you do not have the equipment you can check out your local cake store about making an edible image that you just place on the cake.

If you have lots more talent than I think I do, you could do a piping gel transfer onto the cake and then fill in with frosting or do a frozen buttercream transger. There are tutorials here on this site for both of these methods.

Hopefully, someone with more experience at this sort of thing will reply.

I did some faces with royal icing for cookies.

I did an effect in PhotoShop to bring the faces to 2 colors. Then I printed them out in black and white and covered the sheet with parchment. I lightly outlined and filled in with a light coat of the icing. Once it was dry I put some icing in the cookie then placed the face on top of it. I had to break the icing to get it to conform to the cookie since the faces curled a bit on the paper. After I had them on I retraced them in icing. Sounds like a lot of steps but it wasn't that bad.
