Hi everyone!!! icon_smile.gif I'm a new member to CakeCentral and would like to let everyone know that I just love this website. I am very new to cake decorating. I haven't made my first one yet icon_lol.gif but I plan on researching and beginning my first cake very soon. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I would like to know what are the best supplies and which ones are a waste of money. I still have to buy everything. I think all I have to start with right now is a bowl and a hand mixer lol. Anyways, I posted my gingerbread house that I made a few days ago. Each creation I make I will post on here and would love any and all criticism and feedback.
Thank you
Susan

Welcome! You are going to love it here, everyone is so wonderful! My problem is I spend so much time here getting ideas that I can't decided what I want to do first and get a bit overwhelmed. icon_eek.gif

Can't wait to see your pictures...have fun with this and you'll be surprised what you can do.

Welcome to CC!! It's always good to have new members!! I'm Robyn, the Question Queen..I ask so many questions but I always get very honest and helpful responses almost instantly. You'll love it here!!

I think the best supplies I have (and I'm new to decorating and self-taught) are the Wilton 29-piece tip set, the revolving cake stand, my angled spatula, and of course the icing colors. If you're trying to make red, which I have just done recently..don't use Christmas Red, its more like Hot Pink unless you use a ton of it. I bought Red Red and if you look at my photos (there's only one) you can see what a vibrant red it makes. So there are my suggestions!

Again, welcome and PM me anytime you want to!

Welcome to CC, you have come to one of the best places to learn. Everyone here is like family. My suggestion on supplies first and foremost would be to invest in a Kitchen-Aid mixer, I just can't do without mine and right now there is a lot of places that have them on sale because of Christmas salesicon_smile.gif

Welcome, welcome!! I couldn't agree with irisinbloom more! A kitchen aid is a wonderful investment and it makes life so much easier! One of my favorite tools is my icer tip and big decorating bag that goes with it. It makes gettiong the icing on the cake sooo much easier! A few tips that are really usesful are the #3 for writing, #21 and #32 for borders, #104 for roses and ruffles, #352 for leaves, I love 2110 for big, bold borders or to top cupcakes with. I really like my little $10 turntable that I got at Wal-mart. Also invest in an oven thermometer to make sure you are baking at the correct temp-very important!! Good luck and have fun!!
