I am making a doll cake for a 7 year old. I was wondering, what is the best way to transport it to their house. Also, has anyone ever tried to torte and fill a wondermold doll cake. I am inserting a full size doll.

Thanks

i've made a few doll cakes, and i used to torte them twice but then it would get messy when cutting...but now i don't torte them anymore and i just make a 10 inch to put underneath and torte it. as for transporting them i cut the top off the cake box and put saran wrap over the cake and tape it to the box. i hope this helps!

I would never torte a Wonder Mold or any other 3-d cake. It creates a very unstable cake--especially if you are transporting it.

Anyway--I've made a few. What I do is either put the dress on a 10" cake or put it on a sheet cake (depending on the number of servings needed).

I always use a real doll--can you imagine a little girl getting a doll cake with half a doll!! No me! Anyway--I wrap her really well from the waist down in plastic wrap and stick her in the cake. The one thing I would caution you, however, is not to push her in too far. If you do, she ends up looking like a very high-waisted or wastless doll--the proportions are wrong. I usually push them in to about mid-hip and then use butter cream to build up the top of the skirt--if necessary.

As far as transporting them goes--I generally just put them in an open box on grippy rubber stuff in the back of my Durango. I haven't had a problem with delivery because the doll acts as her own dowel rod to keep it all together.

HTH and I would love to see pics!!

Thanks for your thoughts. I will skip the torting step...who needs the extra mess at this time of the year. I'm only charging $45 so I will use the dollar story 12" doll instead of the real deal Barbie as I agree, the half doll is quite macob and very disappointing to a little girl.

I will be doing the cake for the beginning of next week, but I will post as soon as I have the photos back.

Thanks,
