I made my first cupcake cake and I have a question. When icing it, I could not get the top level because icing kept going down in the spaces between the cupcakes. It didn't get level until icing had completely filled up those spaces (it was packed all the way to the cake board). Is this how it's supposed to be or am I doing something wrong?

I haven't attempted a ccc yet but it sounds like maybe the icing was too thin and/or the cc were too far apart?

I just did one myself this weekend. I glued down all of the cupcakes and put athin layer of icing on it to even it out and fill over the little spaces. I then iced them with the icing tip. It was MUCH easier with the tip, you can get it level. Check out cali4dawns smoothing technique and you will see how she ices the cake. I did it the same way. It was perfect!.

????? I've never had that happen. A tiny little bit my fall through the crevices but not that I would ever notice while decorating or even after. No, that is not normal at all.

Haw far apart were your cupcakes? This doesn't really matter since mine are sometimes lined straight up which cause a huge gap between cakes.

How thin is your icing? I ice mine with about a medium consistency, but I have used thin successfully.

I did use the tutorial and iced them with the icer tip. My icing was a medium/thin consistency--what I use to ice my cakes. I put the cupcakes as close together as I could get them and I did glue them down with icing. I'm not sure what happened. I'll have to try another one and see if I have the same problem again.
