I was wondering can you pipe with it? If not then do you just ice the cake and use another kind of icing to decorate? I was thinking somethig along the line of simple border.
..according to the book you can pipe with it but I have never tried that, so maybe someone with actaul experience can answer you better!
Not sure how many recipes for buttercream are in that book since I don't have it, but if you mean the recipe that is 2 3/4 cups of shortening and 1 1/2 sticks or 6 ounces of butter and you use boiling water and powdered sugar etc., yes you can pipe with it well. I haven't tried making roses with it, but did just about everything else and it worked great! I prefer it with the high ratio shortening over Crisco. Also, you may want to try using the lesser amount of water if you want to try roses.

Yes...you can pipe with it!! It is a very soft icing but once it is refridgerated it hardens up.It is quite unforgiving also if you make mistakes etc..like airbrushing...but the smoothness of the icing and ease of spreading is what drew me to use it for all my cakes.

Heehee, and Kiddiekakes is the one that encouraged me to try it for times when I needed a not so sweet icing for customers that didn't like the regular buttercream I make. Thanks for sharing Kidster! I quite like working with it!

Kiddiekakes helps a lot of people out, she is such a sweetie and just gorgeous too, I might add! I had the pleasure of meeting her in her hometown, she is a doll and so are her children and her mother too!
