My sister ordered a cake from me. It was supposed to be for Sunday. She wants a sheet cake with color flow bananas in each corner and a monkey head will be put up on pillars. Well I just talked to her a couple of hours ago and now it is for tomorrow!!! I'm so stressed that I have given myself a headache. I have to be someplace tonight, won't be home until around 11:30 and I had a few things I wanted to do tomorrow. The things we do for family.

I know the feeling tinacakes!! My DIL calls me and tells me someone wants to order 2 cakes from me and then proceeds to tell me they'll pay me $15 for the cake .. ummmmm, not for the size she's wanting!! I told her those are minumum $25 and up depending what they want on the cake. Gotta love how family takes advantage of our generosity sometimes icon_biggrin.gif

..I would be stressed out too!

My BIL asked me to me the desserts for the Fathers Club Christma Party, at my nephew's high school, for about 80 people..cool, right? Yeah, until I found out that he hadn't plan to pay me!! I don't think so!!

Just amazing!

Next time one of your family asks the imposible say....Just a minute, I'll go shake the cake tree in the back yard and we'll see what falls out. Sheesh!

I'm a baker not a magician!

mommachris,

That is so funny...shake the cake tree icon_lol.gif

I let everyone know that I do not do free cakes unless I want to.

The correct response is "I'm sorry, I can't take changes in your order at this point!" icon_smile.gif

Family ... gotta love 'em!

I'm sort of in the same situation. I actually had a coworker ask for a cake for Christmas instead of a gift....UUUUMMMMM.....I already have a number of cakes on order for Christmas Eve..

I'm not 'cheap' but for the cake she wants, I charge $25...which I probably would not have put into a gift. Of course, when others heard her request, they chimed in as well.

Would it be rude to give them a 'free cake card' for anytime after Jan 1st? Or just stick with the gift I've already purchased?

Give them a $XX gift certificate TOWARDS a cake valid Jan 1/06 to Jun 1/06... then you give them as much as you want (if you want to do this)

Otherwise, just tell them that your baking schedule is full until the new year, and your Christmas shopping is already done!

Actually, you could add a $5 off a cake in the new year if you wanted to drum up some business...

Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't think to include an expiration date....It's going to be a wild week.
