I tried some white buttercream the other day and my kids wouldn't even eat it..and that says something to me.

Does anyone have a really yummy recipe for pure white buttercream? The recipe I made was waaaaayyy to crisco-ish.

TIA!

Which recipe did you use?

This is the recipe I use... I got it from another decorator on another board. It's probably not white white, but it's close enough.. I have to use butter in my icing. I cannot stand the taste of fake butter flavoring... YUK!!

Jeff's icing

2 cups shortening
1 cup butter
2 lbs powdered sugar
2 tsp clear vanilla
Hot water added a tsp at a time to get the consistency you want.

Try using 1 cup butter and 1 cup shortening, or even 1 1/2 cups butter and 1/2 cup shortening. Some brands of real butter are whiter than others I believe, it's just the margerine that is so yellow. If your worried about the decorating not holding up as well, at least cover your cake in an icing that is made from butter.
