I'd loe to get a couple good gumpaste books for Christmas but don't know which ones to ask for. Any suggestions?

I'd really like ones that hae photos instead of illustrations on how to make flowers.

Thanks!!

I saw a really good one at Borders but for the life of me I can't remember what it was. Now, of course, it's gone! It had full color pictures instead of drawings. I was just amazed at the flowers in that book. I hope someone can suggest a good one!

I just got the Wilton Gumpaste 32 piece kit, the book has alot of great pictures in it. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks great and my Wilton Instructor loves hers. She is trying to get Wilton to let her teach gumpaste in our area based on this book.

I have the Wilton one with the cutters and the book. I haven't had the chance to use it yet, but it I think it's great. It's got color step-by-step photos of each flower. It looks really simple. I bought some play-doh to practice but haven't had the chance yet.

I read that someone did that on a different thread. I don't remember who though. I went to buy some play-doh the next day! icon_biggrin.gif But after I bought it, I didn't have the time to play with it. Now I don't know where it went! icon_cry.gificon_cry.gif

Well, MY INSTRUCTOR told me that I wouldnt be able to just buy the kit and do it, i would probably need an instructor b/c "the instructions arent very good, and we dont go by those anyways"...ya right, she's just greedy

I just finished the course II and my instructor said that she is going to do a Wilton gum paste class next month. She still had to kind of create everything for it. She showed me the kit, so I'm pretty sure it will be based off of that. Doesn't Ben Isreal (sp?) do really good gum paste? I wonder if he has any tutorial's.....?

i have the wilton gumpaste book and while you can make okay flowers from it, i'm not incredibly impressed with it. i think its a good starting place for someone who may not be sure if they want to invest the time and money on this "hobby" because it is quite expensive. i also have scott wooleys and nick lodge's books, unless you are very familair with working with gumpaste you may find these books very difficult to understand. i've made a few flowers from each book and must admit it was quite frustrating!

I will agree, the Wilton kit is a good basis to start out but not much from there. I am self-taught and bought the book and made some pretty decent roses for 1 cake. Since then I bought a different rose cutter (all petals together in one cutter) and it seems to work good. The wilton set gives you a good intro but that's about it.
I've been wanting to play around more with it, maybe after the holidays. I have thought about buying Wooley's book as dailey recommended. I've heard good things about that book.
