My cousin has asked me to make a cake for her daughter's 9th birthday party, which is going to have a Chinese theme. It's in a little over a week from now. I've thought of trying the big Chinese dragon idea (the one that dances in the parades), but that seems very complicated. I have seen a nice Chinese checkers one, but not sure if she'd like that..

Still need some help to brainstorm ideas that may work on this. What can you think of for a Chinese theme party cake?

Thanks!

Hi

How about a mahjong theme?

A dimsum ( with Marshmallow fondant) rolled and decorated will be good. Ying and yang is another idea. roosters, lanterns, bamboo, fengshui items etc came to my mind since I'm in HK.

Thank you! I haven't used fondant yet, so it will probably have to be a buttercream frosting. I'm thinking I could do the Yin/Yang on the top of the cake..

Hmm.. and just had an idea of trying to do a chinese take out box with fortune cookies sitting on top. icon_smile.gif Still may not do something like that, though. Other ideas from anyone appreciated!

You could use an umbrella for mixed drinks, you could use the sandle candles from Wilton, you could put some chopsticks on the cake, you could do the ying-yang buttercream transfer or gel transfer. Actually you could do a tranfer of all of the above. Just find a coloring book or download some things from the puter & use that. You can also make cherry blossoms by using the apple blossom directions. Hmm let me think...But some bonsai trees on it... My husband was stationed at Misawa AFB, Japan so we were there for 3 years. BEAUTIFUL PLACE!! I would love to go back!
OH... do a transfer of a geisha girl!!! That would be so pretty!! If I think of anything else I'll post it.

Yes, Lisa's cake is awesome! I don't have an edible image printer, though. Have to work with what I've got. I haven't yet learned fondant, so probably won't be using that, either.. Though I suppose I could..
