For class my teacher says i can do a cake for some extra credit. So our subject right now is Greek history. It can be anything as long as it is themed with something that is Greek history. I'm not particular for anything ,but it can't be to detailed because this cake has to be done in at the longest 4 days. Lol
Any neat ideas on what to do with a cake? It can be aritech, gods, a story, ideas, myths, poems, olympics. Ect.
Thanks!
Hi there....what a great topic....well...I did a Greek-themed cake....using the Greek God of Hunting on a fondant plate?....Google Greek god cartoon and you should get some easy-to-do images....
Maybe you can do a different god or goddess....maybe do a pillar cake like on Earlene's site?
Or you can do a Greek villa....
Ooh!! A Greek Villa might be PERFECT!! Is there anyway i can get directions or a little help on "how to" on this cake?Like what is the basde, roof, decorating tools used? ect..
FD....The cake is covered in white fondant to resemble whitewashed walls....everything else is white fondant that I painted afterwards...but you can always color it beforehand if you wish.. I cut tiles of fondant...maybe 1" x 3/4"...that I let dry over a flower former thingy...just to get a concave shape....then I tiled the roof. I constructed it of fondant, but in retrospect, a cake that was shaped into a roof shape would be much easier. The door is fondant...the widow grill, royal icing......the plants and bird and stuff are fondant.
The floor was the coolest and easiest thing to do and it looked really good. It's a cake board that I laid fondant tiles all around to make the borders and then I filled it in with the cobblestones. I would just make a small ball out of fondant and gently press it on to the board...attaching it with royal icing. then I would gently press the next one and the next one......etc...etc....
Pressing them next to one another gets them in to their perfect shapes...as if they were cut to fit into one-another...and if you vary the sizes, it just looks so authentic. The best part was the gold luster dust that I brush into the "seams" really made it look like shadows.....have fun!!!
I think the only tools I used were to cut some basic flower shapes with my cutters....all the vases and the birds I just shaped with my hands....like play-doh....
What did you use to color the roof? It almost looks shiney. And what cake pan did you use? Also sorry about this but can you explain what a greek villa is exactly? I'm going toneed to explain it and tell them what it is in greek culture or why it represents somethign ro ect.
THANK YOU!!! This is perfect!!
Darn...I wrote a whole explanation and entered and then I think the site went down for a few minutes and of course all was lost....anyway....
The roof I hand-painted with burgundy food color and then highlighted with gold luster dust. The cakes were round....2 stacked 2-tier cakes....I cut one side flat for the door.
A villa is basically just a country home...usually a little nicer than your average home. It is very important in the Greek culture because Greeks splendor in the lush green hills and live for the salty air they breathe near the ocean. If you ask any Greek that lives here what they miss most about their native country, they will tell you the aqua-blue ocean.
My mother's family has a villa on top of a mountain that overlooks the ocean....we have the best of both worlds. Life is different there because the Greeks work to enjoy living ...as opposed to people who just work and don't enjoy their lives. I hope this helps.
