I don't mind the rating system if I were rating someone against heir own cakes. I mean even Toba Garrett may make something that's not up to her abilities on occasion. Just because it's her, doesn't always mean it's a great cake.

We are all at a certain level of decorating. How is this cake compared to the last cake? Is it up to my abilities? Did I fall below my abilities? Did I step up a notch? That is what I like to know. It never hurts my feelings when someone tells me that while it's a nice cake, I could have and should have done better. But I don't want to be rated against someone at a much higher level or even someone below my level.

I will go vote.

The stars might hurt feelings, but bad comments hurt feelings more. We all need to think about a comment before we post it..........

Negative comments - when given with care- are absolutely necessary if you want to improve at a better rate. If my cake sucks- tell me. No tiptoeing around me... and honestly, I hate it when I have to tiptoe around other's feelings. Grow up- learn to take criticism- but no, no one has to endure hatred... that's just not nice.

When making comments about something being bad, make sure to do it tactfully and the receiver of the comment can learn to take things with a grain of salt. I know I have, yes some comments can be disappointing or a little disheartening, but learn from them and life goes on.
If someone looks at my cake and thinks it looks good but it should be smoother looking, tell me. I am constantly working on getting my cakes smoother, so any and all tips are appreciated.

I have received comments such as, "Dawn that's a great for a level one student... what was your problem that day?" That did not hurt my feelings... the cake was good for a level 1 student... not for my skill level....

Now if I make a cake and someone informs me that Collete would have done better... well, that's a different story....
