Trolls Undermining Rating System..

Thread Starter
It has come to my attention that there are some trolls on the site who are just coming here to rate bunches of pictures with zeros. I thought it was just mine and it upset me a lot, but then I saw it on half a dozen other photos of really nice cakes which all had really positive comments. They had four votes with zero star scores.. and when I rate one of those photos at 5, it still only raised it to a 1 star, which indicates to me that the other votes were zeros. It is obvious to me that none of these cakes were that bad as to deserve zero stars, not even mine!

Is there anything you can do about this? Maybe you could give us an option on each photo we post NOT to have star ratings on our photos? I don't need that kind of attack and I don't like it much, but I love this site and seeing the photos and reading the forums. I like sharing my pictures, too, but I dislike that rating system - because it unfortunately often attracts trolls. Maybe you could restrict voting and commenting to people who have already posted at least one picture themselves or something? I am not sure what else could be done.. Please think about it and see if you can help resolve this problem before it gets even worse.

Thank you,
~AngelWendy

Oh, Wendy. That is terrible, but true. I have noticed that on alot of the pics as well. I have only posted one pic myself, just for some feedback. But I know how hard it can be to work so hard on something and then have such negative things happen. There should be some way to fix this problem. But I don't know what can be done. Just know that you have my vote!! Happy Baking!!

Thank you. I'm glad that someone else saw that, too. It's very discouraging!

I've never paid attention to that. I think I've rated one cake here and that was during a contest. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. Unless it is a contest situation, I don't really feel comfortable with the rating system. I mean, What are we rating against? Everyone produces lovely cakes for their abilities and experience. I couldn't even tell you if any of mine have been rated. Now I'm curious... I'll have to go look.

People are just strange... honestly, why would someone enjoy rating cakes with zeros? Why would that be fun? There is no monetary reward for ratings here, not even bragging rights... in the scheme of life, it means nothing to have your cake rate higher or lower than the next cake... so whomever is doing this... please go find another form of entertainment because we just don't get it.

I have to agree that rating a cake is not fair to anyone that is new to cake decorating I would not be hurt to see that not offered on everyday cakes unless its a contest... And then again you take that chance that they are going to do it there too... I would suggest a poll voting and that is what counts not the stars... How many people voted on that cake.....

I look at the pics hardly notice the stars unless I want to vote. I think where the problem is, is that obviously ones persons (or more?) comments dont agree with another...for instance mine... I dont agree with the stars I have I think I deserve less, but then again people have the right to their opinions (rather evil or honest)..maybe just take the star rating off???? Like someone else said I dont see really what is being voted on..though I have starred cakes when I am trying to relax after everyone has gone to bed....Anyhow Angel I am sorry it has upset you so, sounds like to me you're a very sweet person. icon_wink.gifthumbs_up.gif

Angel & Tanya, I agree 100% to be rid of the rating system~ because of the lack of maturity of those "Trolls"! I find it difficult to put a rating on any of the cakes as I know how hard it is on oneself to get a bad or low rating. I have noticed also that when a vote is put in, the rating doesn't go very far. Everyone puts hard work into their cakes, and just to read the positive comments is rating enough I think. This is for Support of each other, not putting down of each other. Flavrdfun~don't be too hard on yourself, you make great cakes, you and everyone else on here have the confidence to step out there and create wonderful cakes/projects. That's what I like to see. Hey Angel, New Hampshire how are the seasons up there? The reason I ask is that hubby asked me where I would like to retire in a couple of years (I'm only 40, he's 45 we arent OLD, just getting out of military) and I told him, "I dont know, where are the seasons decent enough for making cakes without humidity icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif "

We get very well defined seasons here in New England, but winter is the largest portion of the year it seems to me. If you don't mind a lot of cold weather you may like it here. New Hampshire IS a very beautiful state. I was fortunate to travel around the US with me family at age 11 and the main thing I took from that was how lovely my home state was, with clear running water and green grass and the mountains as well as the sea within our state.

The humidity is not too bad. I mean you'll get some days in the summer, but the fall is not bad and the winter can get very dry, which is good for the cakes, it seems to me. I just started doing them this winter and I haven't had any problems with that.

Blessings,
~AngelWendy
