I sometime like to watch her, especially when she is making cakes...

Last night she was decorating different kind of cakes to fit the ethnicity of the holidays:

She did one for the Star of David
Hannukah
Forgot the 3rd icon_redface.gif

Tonight at 5:30pm ET, she is making delicate cakes that are a work of art (or so the show says icon_razz.gif )

I like to watch her... She can give a lot of shortcuts on how to get ready fast.... The only thing I don't like is that she seems to always use store bought frosting... I have nothing against but I find it so overly sweet, even when compared to regular buttercream. icon_cool.gif

Anyway, I will watch anyone, even the host of these shows I don't care for, if they they are making cakes!!!!

When I first read the title of your post I thought it was "Sara Lee"! Ha!

I actually don't know who Sandra Lee is! I must be out of the loop!

What station is this on?

Ok, I cannot stand Sandra Lee. She doesn't give recipes, she provides serving suggestions. The other holiday cake was a Kwaanza cake--I don't even know if I'm spelling that correctly, please forgive me if I am. But what she put ON the Kwaanza cake was CORN NUTS!!!! I mean, really! Except she kept calling them ACORNS!!!! I could go on, but I'll spare you all. Go ahead and watch it--you'll at least get a good laugh and wonder how on earth she came to get her own show.

Did anyone see the show where she put fondant over marshmallows?
How gross could that be.

I want to see her show tonight too. I thought it was gross how she used canned chocolate frosting for truffles!! icon_eek.gif Come on! Truffles aren't hard to make and the additional time it would take to make them homemade would make all the difference!

I've watched her show several times but honestly think making any of her recipes would be better just the old fashioned homemade way.

So honestly I can't stand her.

The last show I watched she actually bought pumpkin pies, then scooped out all the pumpking stuff and added some whipped cream, then put the pumpking cream mixture into small tarts. I just kinda shook my head and wondered why you would tear up a nice pie just to pipe it into tarts to call it "semi-homemade"

Anyways.... just my opinion.

I've watched her show a few times. She has some time saving ideas, but I do sometimes wonder how she gets some of the recipes that she does. There are a few that make me wonder if anyone eats what she makes.

My MIL just recently saw one of her shows during Thanksgiving and all my MIL could say was that she didn't trust cooks that wore all white and had a white kitchen. Something about her maybe being a clean freak. Thought that was funny.

Well, I watched her show at 5:30pm. I liked the way she put together the "Stage Circus Cake." Don't like the way the iced it, but like the idea to do a stage which you could use for other ideas.. icon_smile.gif

The fondant one, well, she uses premade Wilton fondant so that's easy... not much there... However, she said it was easy to use and people who are not used to using fondant may find that it is not as easy as it seem, at first anyway... icon_rolleyes.gif

I have to agree with those that don't care for her show. I saw the Holiday cake show and taking an angel food cake, covering with blue store bought frosting...well, I didn't see the "Holiday" of it so I quickly deleted it from Tivo.

Now I caught a Sara's Secrets that the Tivo taped automatically and it was Collette Peters doing Xmas cookies. Loved it. I have cake and cookie as keywords so Tivo just automatically tapes some of the shows and food network hasn't dissappointed. Tomorrow night is cookie night. Tivo overtime. LOL!

I saw that episode. I think it was her Halloween special. She also tore apart a great cheesecake and mixed it with the torn up pumpkin pie! What a waste!!

I like how she decorates some things, but I don't really care for her recipes.

I just read a hilarious blog about the "pumkin pie/cheesecake incident" episode. For what she apparently spent on the stuff to make her little tarts or whatever it was she could have made a car payment! icon_lol.gif I'm definitely part of the "don't like" camp or maybe the "would rather chew glass" camp!
I actually was excited at the prospect of watching the show the first time because sometimes I am a semi-homemade cook-for ex. I'll take packaged yellow rice and doctor it up to make chicken and yellow rice where it tastes a bit more authentic or use canned black beans and doctor those up but what she does alot of times is just wasteful (time and money) and doesn't sound yummy to me. I do agree, alot of what she does she could make from scratch in the same amount of time! Somebody at Food Network must like her-they keep giving her new kitchens!!!!

ps-I think Sara's Secrets just got canceled!! I really liked her show. One of the best meals I have ever made came from her recipes (rack of lamb, glazed baby carrots and a gruyere potato thing-mmmmm)

You can still get ideas from Sandra Lee's shows eventhough some of the things she does with the food is not as great... icon_biggrin.gif

HOw about this show I just noticed yesterday while waiting for Sandra Lee's to start. I can't remember the tilte but it was something about shortcut foods...

The lady on the show made cookies from scratch and then filled them with apricot preserves and put one on top of the other to make them like a sandwich and then dipped one half in chocolate... They looked really good. Then she said you could wrapped them pretty as gifts.

Sweet Dreams this morning will be making cakes as well. YUMM!

Edit to add: To be more specific she is going to be making a cupcake christmas tree...

Cake Decorators work very hard at their craft ,Always looking for ways to perfect it,trying new techniques, working late into the night, Sometimes being brought to tears over mishaps,
And still People want to pay you Albertson prices
for your work. That's without in depth how-to shows
Can you imagine the stink they would make if they thought Any monkey in the zoo could decorate a cakeBecause they saw some show on t.v.
I'm happier watching the chalenges and hearing people say ''WOW! How do they do that?

sorry just my opinion

My DH and I watch her show and get a laugh because she is always making some kind of "punch". My DH calls her a lush. But I have gotten a few ideas from her show, so I am on the fence about it.

My opinion on Sandra Lee is that she spends more time and energy on making her "tablescapes" look good rather than making good tasting food. Some of her food does look good, but I really have to wonder how it tastes. I'm all for short-cuts in the kitchen, but if I were choosing between saving time or making something tasty, I'd choose tasty any day of the week. I don't dislike her though. I think her show appeals to a lot of people who don't have a passion for cooking or baking but do want to attempt to make pretty presentation.

I'm with most of you all, she does have a beautifully decorated table every time, but she just drives me crazy with some of those ideas, my dh says shes a little prissy...I just love to watch to see how they've decorated the kitchen.

I watch the cooking channel all the time and I don't think I have ever seen her show. Unless for halloween she was the one who had on a witches outfit and her kitchen was decorated all in Haloween oh yeah and her phone rang and it was her husband telling her to hurry up. If that was her I have seen her show once then. I really wasn't impressed. Her outfit was a major safety hazard and had it cought fire the show might have been good........lol.

I was thinking that too but personally I find Rachel Ray MUCH more attractive....maybe it is just cause she seems so passionate about what she does and she seems genuine. Like someone who you could meet and be friends with.

We're sorry MariaLovesCake-we didn't mean to beat up on Sandra Lee (well actually we did) but she is just such an easy target.

I do like Rachel Ray's $40 a day series. I never really see much that she cooks on her 30 min meals that I take to but I like to watch her just the same. Now Alton Brown, he's my man! Love to watch his show. I love to know the science behind things and he's just a bit off-center!

I would like to have a couple of the differnt setups she does for her kitchen, can you amagine having to redecorate your kitchen everyday. Her kitchen colors change every day. She goes overboard for me.

Oh, that's okay. I had seen previous threads about her and knew that she is not very much liked....

That guy you mentioned, Alton Brown, he sure is interesting... Is he the one on that show called Good Eats? He can sure pick out all the wrong stuff people do when they bake....YIKES!!!! And all the science behind it can make your head spin... icon_biggrin.gif
