I am obsessed with getting a perfectly smooth cake, I never do but I try until I am sick of looking at it or just plain tired. icon_sad.gif

Today working on a cake I thought, ok this will do. I went to move my hand back and the spatula flipped out of my hand and landed across the cake. icon_surprised.gif I froze and then I laughed because this happens, I can handle this, it's just one of those things.

I spent too much time trying to fix. When I finished I lifted my hand and instead of flipping out of my hand it just dropped. You guessed it on my cake icon_confused.gif

It's fixed again and I need a break icon_wink.gif

Ha. you definately need a break. One time when I was pretty new I spent way too long trying to get a cake smooth. Finally I figured it only needed one more swipe with the spatula. Of course the entire turn table fell over and I had to catch the cake with my hands. I never used that turntable again even when it was the only one left. icon_smile.gif

yup, step away for awhile.

have you tried using a viva towel or melviras roller method? works wonders.

It was a non-crusting frosting, what a pain.

I swear everytime I do a cake....I do something stupid like that.

I just got done decorating one......and I accidentally poked the side of the cake with my spatula...I don't know what I did...but I actually had to pull cake off the spatula.

The last time...I was using the wilton colors.........didn't realize I dropped the toothpick..stepped on the toothpick.....tracked throughout the house unknowingly with pink coloring on my foot. There was a trail of me everything. Luckly after a lot of scrubbing I got the pink color out of the carpet.

I just do such stupid things sometimes ha ha. It seems like the more careful I try to be.........the more of a mess I make. ha ha

Janette, when I read your post I thought I must have posted it in my sleep until I saw your name. I totally do that too! I'm obsessed with a smooth cake. I suppose I should have posted it on the confession thread. I will work and work to make it better and get so tired and flustered that I make a mess and would have been better off to just leave well enough alone. One of these days I will learn...maybe.

Yesterday wasn't MY day to decorate. I forgot to grease the cake pan and my cake refused to come out in one piece. And (in a mother of an infant moment) when I went to make my icing, I used GRANULATED sugar instead of powdered! It took me a few seconds to realize the mixer makes a different sound when you use granulated sugar instead of powdered. NOT a good day!
