I am making the animal cupcakes that are on the Wilton yearbook. I am having a horrible time getting the candies black! Can you use anything besides Wilton candy dies? I have to buy a pack of 4 colors to get black each time.

Any help or tips are appreciated!

When I had to do black candy clay I used the dark chocolate Wilton candy melts and added black paste coloring that they sell for icing. Worked like a charm.

I use the dark candy melts and add in americolor black candy color....haven't had any problems. I once accidentally put in the paste color instead of candy color and got a big grainy clump.
