Can I use the flavoring they sell for making candy to flavor buttercream icing? If not, will buttercream icing without vanilla flavoring just butter flavoring taste bad??
Thanks
Barbara
I'm not sure about the candy flavoring, I can't honestly answer that question but I'm sure BC with just butter flavoring will be just fine!!!
Amy
Yes you can. You won't use the same measurements because oils are more concentrated than extracts.
Oh Definitely. It is the best tasting too. I also use the candy flavored oils in cakes because oil does not lose its flavor like extracts in heat. Extracts lose almost all flavor when baked. You need to be careful how much you add. A few drops goes a long way.
That's what I use. The great thing is you use so little it does not color the icing. I did strawberry the other day per request and it was awesome!!!!
I use Lorann also, and it tastes great! A rule of thumb that I follow is 5 drops per pound of icing and it seems to work out fine. Lorann offers a large selection of flavors also.

Do you use a dropper? The opening of the little jar is so big I would hate to add too much, this stuff ain't cheep!
What about flavoring cake batter? Has anyone done that with these?
Here are the flavors I have:
Keoke Coffee, Cherry, Raspberry, Pecan, Chocolate, Amaretto, Watermelon, Almond Oil, Strawberry, Tutti-Frutti, Banna Creme, and Coconut!

Yes. use a dropper. It's the most precise way. Anyother way would create waste as you mentioned and too much will ruin the icing.
Thanks for all the replies!! I will try it, now I need to decide what flavor.
