I have been wanting to try an edible image on a cake. I am not able to print it at home, so would send away to have it made. The prices are at least $10 and up. I am wondering how to charge for this??
Add the price of the edible image to the cake price? That would be a lot!

Or add a percentage of the price to my normal cake price since the work/time spent is less???

Does anyone else do edible images that they do not print themselves???

Thank You!

I print mine myself but I have given a couple away with a cake before just to save decorating time. An image only costs me $3 to make and using one might save me a couple hours time (sometimes more). I think you should charge what you're comfortable with. If they specifically ask for an edible image though, you can quote them the price before hand.

I'm thinking of investing in a printer, but I dont know if my customers would go for it...for those of you who have a printer, do u have requests for it enough...was it worth the money?

Cake fairy, when I had my small shop and did edible images a lot of my customers would have a ball sitting with me in front of the computer and working on their edible image.

I would get a general idea and work with a graphic program to pull up the images that would fit my clients requirements and we'd work from there, for fonts and to tweak the image.

I would charge an extra $5.00 for this service..but that was in 1999.

I've gotten an edible image from Albertsons. They will sell the image to you for $10, no cake purchase necessary thank goodness! My local cake supply place is $10 too.
I have though about investing in the printer but I don't have a lot of interest in them around me.
But I would go ahead and add the cost to your cake. If that bothers you then you could always cut the price of your cake slightly since there is less decorating involved.

I charge $5 per sheet. I buy them for about $3 but I add in more to cover any editing time I may need and for the ink.
