I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to do the bible cake. Is it an 9x13 and carved. how do you get it to look like there are pages in it? My daughter and my neice are having their forst communion together and i would love to do an elaborate cake. Maybe a bible, rosary, and gift boxes???? Has anyone ever tried to make a pair of gloves out of fondant? Maybe that might be too hard.
Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Jen

Have you searched in the gallery to find something like that? Then you could pm whoever did it and get advice from them. I know I've seen a couple at least. Good Luck.

Wilton has a two-mix sized book specialty pan that I have seen used to do an open Bible. You can make it look like pages by using a cake comb on the sides of the cake. (I did that for the memorial service cake in my gallery, which isn't a Bible.

Are you planning on covering it in fondant?? I watched a lady do this on the Food Network show. She did a wedding cake with stack of old book(of course made out of cake). What she did for the pages is she cut out the size to cover the pages part, each for top, bottom, and side. The she took a cutter(believe it was a pizza cutter) and made lines on it for the pages, just to indent it, not cut thru it. She made the pieces alittle bit longer so that they were a little longer then she needed. Then she put them on and matched it up, with a little overhang, then took little scissors and cut the edges that met(the part that overlapped) to look like pages, just little cuts to go with the lines she made on it earlier. I hope I explained that ok, cause it was really awesome to watch! Jen

I read a post where the decorator used a clean paintbrush (wide one, I guess) and just lightly ran it over the edges where the pages show - it was buttercream - then once it crusted he dusted all of the edges with gold luster dust, and it looked like leafing on the pages... really turned out nice. You could then make the covers in fondant to get a nice smooth edge...

Ohh forgot to mention, they started out with just a rectangle cake, cut to the size of the book they wanted, then they cut it to have the book cover. She did it by cutting the part of the cake where the pages go, so leaving it long at the edges of the book(cover), then cutting it in 1 inch(top, bottom, and side where pages go). She also took and dug out the part for the binder and used round dowel to make an impression on the top of the cake for the binder of the book(just keeping it in the same spot, rolling it between her fingers so it was smooth. The part she cut out was for the pages and leaving room for the cover. She then did the cover by putting the fondant on and over the rim(cover of the book), then put in the fondant she made for the pages. Hope that made sense too? She made it look really easy, but I am sure that comes from years of practice!
