So how does one come up with the perfect name for their confection creations. I have been sending my cakes to my work with my MIL. She tells me that people are starting to ask for cakes and want to know how to get ahold of me. Well this is all wonderful, but I have no idea what to call myself or my fun cake business....so I ask you....what do I put on the business cards that I will now need to create so I can get my cakery business up and running.

My husband suggested "Cake Nut".....of course I love it because my husband is very cute and completely supportive....but is this good enough to market?

Any input would be greatly appreciated. icon_razz.gif

I am going through the exact same thing! Everyone I ask likes different things. I think you need to just go with your gut. You're the one that has to listen to it and live with it daily.

I have mine narrowed down to 2 or 3 names I think. I want to decide on one soon and get my web site up!

Good luck in deciding. It is SO hard coming up with a name you can live with!

I think if I had a "C" or a "K" as the first letter of my name I would use that like Krissy's Kakes or something like that, but my name is Randa and nothing cake related goes with that........who know.......I am sure one day I will wake up and the name will come to me....until then I will be that girl who makes the cake....

I'm almost legal, and when I am I'm calling my business "The Blue Birch Bakery" because my kitchen cabinets are made of birch and stained blue! A friend of mine is in advertising and marketing and she thinks that I can do alot with that name when it comes to menus, business cards, etc.

By the way, my first name is very similar to yours....replace the "R" with an "M" and you have it. Nothing rhymes with it except "panda" - not exactly what comes to mind for a bakery !

Blue Birch Bakery is a great name!! I went with Takes The Cake, but I'm not so sure I want to keep it. I want something original. Right now, I'm just doing cakes here and there. Eventually I'd love to have a shop though. I wanted a name like that. Something catchy and unique but not off the wall.

Good luck Randa!

I grew up as Randa Panda.......some of my childhood friends still refer to me as Randa Panda....but that doesn't prompt anyone to want to buy a cake...hehehehehe

Manda....that is a great name......I think for now I am gonna stick with the "Cake Nut"...I can always change it later.

My husband also hand drew the cutest cake logo...it is very original, as soon as I can I will post it so you can see it. I of course wil want an honest opnion!

This website is GREAT!!!! Everyone is so helpful and full of wonderful ideas!

Thanks,

LOL! I'm called "Manda Panda" all the time. After 36 years, it has gotten a little old I must admit. I like "Cake Nut", too. Names are sooooooo hard to come up with. I can't wait to see your logo!

There definitely worse things that your name could rhyme with. I was Gina Cochina for about 5 years. icon_cry.gif In Spanish, Cochina means, disgusting or filthy.

Okay, enough with my pity party icon_cool.gif

I'm getting so frustrated w/this whole naming thing!! I've only come up w/one name it isn't that great. Everytime I ask for suggestions from friends or family all I get is "Christine Cakes"!! But just about every bakery in this area has a similar name..."XXX's cakes or bakery!! So I need something that is going to set me apart from them!!

BTW! I love Blue Birch Bakery and Takes The Cake...hope I can come up w/something good like those!!

Christine Cakes is cute....and catchy...when you are looking to name your business these are the components you want....cute, catchy and something people will remember. Of course, once they see and taste the cake your name could be schwinzerlheimmer and they will remember it...but until the entire population you are catering too has tasted them all they have to go by is the name....so again.....cute and catchy are the key...

Randa, I'd probably like it better if the other bakery's in the area didn't have similar names. NAME's Cake Shop....or NAME's Bakery! So unfortunately, I need something that is going to make me stand out from them.

My husband & I sat around one day just thinking of names. We opted not to coordinate with my name (Erin) or typical "cake/sweets" words. We played the song "Beautiful Day" at the end of our wedding & that song's always been special. So we chose "Beautiful Day Cakes" & my husband made a cute logo. It's not your typical name & the first time we said it I thought it was silly. But it's cute...something that people would remember. If you don't love what you've come up with, just keep thinking. It'll come. icon_rolleyes.gif

I named my businesses after my daughter. The first and main business is named "Bella's, a dessert catering company" and the smaller one (food allergy desserts) is named Bee's Delights. My daughter's name is Isabella and she is allergic to dairy and eggs, so I devised a menu for other kids with similar allergies. I thought the name sounded more child like, and Bella's was more sophisticated for the upscale menu. TMI!! tapedshut.gif

Hey be thankful you didn't have to grow up with Carol Barrell!! LOL Here is MY dilema. I'm going to get my state tax number so have to name my business, much as you are talking about I presume. But I have two business I will operate under the same number and name. One being my cakes and the other being my woodoworking business. I don't want anything that screams cakes or wood. I have a couple good ideas but haven't decided yet. My daughter told her hubby that I am looking for name ideas for my business and right away he says "The Stinky Penguin". Leave it to him! I don't want something too cutsey that I'll outgrow or get tired of either and nothing with my name in it. UGH! I haven't even seen the list of names already taken. My shop is in a converted 175 year old red barn. I'm still thinkin on this, it ain't easy. Ü

Hey CarolAnn!
How about "The Red Barn Bakery"? I'm with you about using my name in my business name....yuck! "The Blue Birch Bakery" came to me as I was walking my husky one day last summer. I live in a very rural area with no zoning and there's a neighbor of mine that builds cabinetry out of his home. As we were strolling by his shop, I started thinking about my own kitchen cabinets and the name just hit me. Definitely a Eureaka!!! moment. I ran it past my boyfriend and my daughter and they were like, That's IT! I'm glad everyone here on CC likes it, too. icon_lol.gif

Randa, that logo with a pink background would be very pretty! You could do so much with it! Pink business cards, thank you letters on pink paper, pink stickers for the boxes, the list goes on and on!
