I recently purchased an airbrushing set. I am looking forward to practicing. However, I have a few questions. In reading the information about airbrushing on this site, I have some concerns and questions.

1. Can I use any type of food coloring or does it have to be a specific type for airbrusing?

2. The set that I purchased was not strictly for cake decorating, so, is it ok to use on cakes? I have not used it on anything else and cake decorating will be the only thing I use it on.

3. Does anyone have a good book or website that I can go to, to learn to airbrush correctly?

I think that is it for now. Thanks in advance. icon_biggrin.gif

I've seen decorators put all kinds of things in their airbrushes from thinned metallic powders to corn syrup. I think as long as you have the right consistency and you clean it well after each use, you can experiment with all kinds of things. Some things might clog it, others might cause it to spatter. For regular airbrushing, I'd stick to the airbrush colors since they're always the right consistency. The color will always be what you expect too once you get used to them.

The airbrush you use doesn't have to be made specifically for cakes. It's the air brush and the compressor that make all the difference and if that works well for you, it should be fine. You don't want one that blows too hard or it might make holes in your BC. One that doesn't blow hard enough might cause a lot of spatters.

There's a lot of info at Sugarcraft along with some lessons...
