Cake Contests Proof

I'm not sure if this has ever been suggested before and please do not shoot me or think I am being mean in any way. Please also do not get this thread locked.

Often times there are cake contests wherein an outstanding cake wins. But in this really troublesome world with people from all different walks of life, honesty over the internet really is something that can easily be overlooked.

I really hate to see a great cake be beat out by another cake when the person claiming to have made the winning cake is lying.

So, I was thinking. . .

Would it be fairer if in a cake contest, you had to place a piece of paper w/ your screen name or a sign that says "I made this cake" in order to stop people that never even visit this site from winning by lying?

Did I make sense?

what do you mean? did someone make a false claim? when did this happen?

oh i get it...you mean when entering a contest, to put your screen name on it? but i thought that they don't identify the person until after the contest closes? how would that work?

I mean, when you enter a contest, you put an index card next to the cake when you take a photo of it saying your screen name. Like next to a cake I made, I'd place an index card saying "nglez09". That way all the cakes are legit.

i think that the majority of the people here are honest and dont lie about their entries. On top of that if we had our screen names on our photos then it wouldnt be anonymous and votes could be swayed which I believe Health and Jackie have done a great job of avoiding. JMO

I also like the idea of anonymous entries in the contests. I do see your point though.
Maybe a symbol denoting a CCer could be established for contests??? and placed somewhere in the picture as you suggested?

Oh, you're right guys. Maybe a sign that said "I made this cake". Or something.

That's exactly why I think it's unfair that one person who's lying about their entry should win over someone who really spent their honest time making something for the contest.

Do you really feel someone is lying? Or is it just a hunch you have? I really have never felt anyone was lying.... I've just never been that concerned about it - it's not like you're winning $5000 or something - it's usually just a book or a donation made in your name.... not something that I'd really be concerned someone is lying about a cake they made to win..... don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the prizes aren't good - I'm just saying they aren't like extravagant or something.....

only thing I can say is that I have to trust that this isnt happening and just enjoy the friendly competition and my friends here on CC.

IDK, I've persnally never even entered a competition. I am always a person of justice and so it was just a suggestion. I do not feel anyone that has entered their cake since the time I've been here or even recently has entered a "fake cake".

JMO, but if the person is tacky enough to submit an entry that isn't really theirs, then I believe a statement saying "I made this" wouldn't keep them from submitting an entry either.

I like the idea of the entries being anonymous too.

If they are lying about their entry they probably wouldn't have a problem making a sign saying "I made this cake" either. I don't see any way of knowing for sure unless you watch them make them cake. They would have to be a CC member to submit a photo to contest here wouldn't they?

I mean it like this. . .

If they're stealing the picture from another website, then it wouldn't have the little sign. You know? But if they really did make it, they would be able to put the little sign next to the cake and take a picture of it.
