I have a huge dilemma! I have a cake due Friday for someone my DH works with and I need a Harry Potter edible image. I have a photo she sent me of what she wants on it. Big problem is the machine at the shop I get my supplies from is broken and NO ONE else in town can do it. Walmart and Sams won't sell just an image without a cake. I don't know what to do. I was going to laminate the photo and put it on the cake that way but my DH made me feel terrible because he said that is not what she paid for and she wouldn't be happy with it. I was already having a bad day and that just made things worse. I told him I'd give her the cost of the image back but he didn't think that was good enough. Anyway, I am near tears here because I don't know what to do. If I had the money I'd go out and buy a printer myself but that will not be happening. I know its probably pretty hopeless but I would appreciate any input.
Thank you,
Heather icon_cry.gif

I am so sorry to hear your trouble....here is my best suggestion for an edible image. I needed to do a strawberry shortcake cake. Canada does not hold the liscence for S.S.I took a picture from the website and enlarged it, I traced it onto rice paper and colored it in with thinned down paste color and edible markers. It turned out very well and very recognizable.

Will she only accept an edible image or can you do a FBCT? Sorry, I can't help you further.

Could you do a frozen buttercream transfer of the image or would that be too difficult? I made the Dallas Mavaricks Logo on the cake in my pictures out of candy melts by tracing a mirror image of a print out. It wasn't terribly difficult to do.

Maybe someone on here could print it for you and overnight mail it. I wish I had the printer and I would do it for you, but I don't.

Is there a Kroger any where near you? They will still print an image and sell it without the cake. They sell them for $5 here. Is the image very complicated? Maybe you can make it out of a BCT, royal icing or maybe a color flow. Sorry, I feel your pain. I really wish I could afford a printer also, maybe Santa will be kind to us, LOL!! I think that the woman will more than likely understand what is going on and will be happy with the image any way you can make it for her. I bet she is paying for a great tasting cake also not just the edible image you offered. I think offering the refund for that portion is more than fair.

Hope the helps!!

Good luck!!

Is it possible for you to get the image in a nearby town like Bay City or Midland - your in Saginaw right? I grew up in Mount Pleasant icon_smile.gif It might mean driving a bit but at least you could still get your image. I would think there would be a bakery or shop somewhere close enough that could do it. Do the folks at your normal shop know of any others who do it? Or could you maybe do a BCT of something Harry Potter Like Harry or the snitch - I dont know what the image was of? Or I guess you could just call the lady if all else fails and work something out....I feel your pain! I hope everything works out!

It is a very detailed photo so nothing but an edible image would work. I could never duplicate it any other way. Thank you all for your help though. Berta's idea would be great if someone would be willing to print me one but I'd hate to impose on anyone like that. Hopefully I can use the laminated photo and she won't be to upset. We'll see I guess.

Heather....Do another post and ask if anyone is willing to print it for you. I bet someone will, and if they overnight it this afternoon, it will get to you tomorrow!! Its worth a shot. I have asked here at albertsons and walmart but they wont just print the image either.

I would try the rice paper method...you just lay it over the design and then trace with black coloring and then fill in the other appropriate colors (kind of like paint by number)....

...that's if you have no luck getting your hands on an edible image.

Now I have another problem! I called a Kroger in town and they could do an image but not the one I need because they said it is copyrighted! UGH! It never ends. Berta, did your Kroger say anything about that? Thank you by the way for looking into that for me.

I just asked them if they could print an image for me...they gave me the price and said it would be an 8.5 x 11....if you'd like you can email me the pic and I will take it to Kroger here and see what they say.
