OK - these things are wrapped and sealed in plastic.

*How long are they good for - while still in plastic?
*Do people really eat them, or are they for decoration only?

I bought one of the kits 2 yrs ago, never had time to do it. I found it in my decorations box. icon_rolleyes.gif

I hate to throw it out, but I am assuming that its not good anymore. Unless I just decorate it and no one eats it...

I am so sad... icon_lol.gif

I would make it using the gingerbread. Make fresh royal icing and buy new candies to decorate it with. Then it could be "nibbled" down to the gingerbread.

We never eat the gingerbread anyway, it's just a little too hard for our tastes.

Have fun!

tabs - good luck with your village! be sure to post a pic, I'd love to see it!

LittleBigMomma - I like the idea about the new candy so that it could be eaten! I think I'll do that! I was also hoping to add some fondant accents, too...

I can't wait!

I have never wanted to eat a house. I don't know why, maybe it's just all the work you put into it, I'd hate to tear it apart and eat it. Plus I think I'd rather have thinner cookies iced in something more tasty then the mix icing.

I'd put it together, even using the candies. If you want something for your family to eat you can always buy a new one or make some gingerbread house.

From my understanding you can save the houses from year to year in a cool, dry place. I haven't tried it yet, but I think I'd rather do that than eat it.

There are alot of additions you can add to these kits to personalize them, but they come with quite a bit of candies to use to begin with. I have always had left overs in the ones I have done.

I prefer that my gingerbread houses just be used for decoration. BUT, with kids in the house, the candy gets nibbled away! LOL
