Just wondering when would you use crusting or noncrusting icing ?What are the advantages?

You can use crusting buttercream when you want to smooth it using the viva paper towel method. Non crusting usually IMBC and SMBC taste lighter and a bit less sweet than crusting BC. There are advantages to both, and I think its a personal taste preference as to which tastes better.

I find it easier to smooth the noncrusting BC. I use the hot spatula method for both, but I just getter nicer results on the noncrusting.
