Anyone seen any pictures of an ice skating cake? Like a scene-type cake? I had a client ask for something like that, and I have no clue how to do it. I'm a visual person, so any pictures or links to pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the help!

I did a figure skating cake a while ago. Although it is not a "scene" maybe it will be of some use to you. The skates are royal icing. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Just another idea.....
I made an Olympic ice skating cake for my sis's--a big Michelle Kwan fan!--b-day during the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. I baked 2-9x13 cake layers; stacked them (with icing between the layers); and then carved out a rectangle/oval in the center that was only the depth of the top cake layer. I iced the entire cake with white buttercream & in the center of the cut-out part of the "skating rink" I free-handed the design just like the one on the real skating rink in Salt Lake City & let that crust over in the fridge. Next, I made clear jello gelatin (I used the sparkling jello & used water instead of seltzer/club soda) & partially cooled it so it wouldn't melt the icing; then poured it into the "skating rink" & put it in the fridge. After it set up, I decorated the border & wrote the message, putting it back in the fridge as needed.

You could use whatever color of jello to fit your cake. Mine ended up a little on the yellow-ish side but you could see the Olympic emblem through it which is what I wanted. Blue would probably be great, too.

Of course, you could make it an outside "rink" with trees around the "pond"; or put ice skates at the edge; etc.......

Good Luck!!!

Oh, I did let the iced cake get really cold in the fridge before I poured in the jello.
