Hey, I just had a brainstorm of an idea...let's have a cake central convention where we can all meet and share ideas and bring in our cakes!! Has anyone else thought of this? This way, we could meet, do workshops, and showcase our work!

Just a thought!

What a great idea! How would we pick a place to meet though? There's people here from litarally EVERYWHERE!

Sure sounds like a good idea but it would be way harder than you think....location first off would be a huge problem. We're spread all over North America. Where would you propose we hold this Conference?

I think a central region of the US might work the best...which is why I suggest chicago. We could have the more experienced members offer workshops, etc. It would be something people would have to travel to. I'd go!!

It would be time consuming but not impossible. People from various groups hold conventions all the time. It is a lot of work and someone would have to volunteer to host it in their city and do the leg work locally. I think it's a cool idea, it's just a matter of who would participte and who would be willing to organize it. It could rotate around the country, it would be a blast!

It sure is a good idea but you have people all over the world, and some of us are overseas. Its not that easy to come home like we want. But who knows???????? ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!

There are 18,206 registered users, of that total 638 are not Newbies (including moderators/admins). Let's say of the 638 at least 275 members will show up (based on the forum ratings). That is 2% of the total users registered, now that would be alot of fun....I think meeting in Chicago would be great! My employer goes there all the time for conventions and learning workshops for dentistry....this can be done.....but we would all have to pay a fee for the convention to cover the cost of renting a convention hall, plus don't forget food and lodging.....however you can get group rates when there is a large party like us.

Hey I wanna go! icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

This is something that Jackie and I have talked about organizing, but it is not something we are ready to do yet. We don't want to put the CakeCentral name on anything until we know we can do it really well.

I would think 2007 would be the earliest we could even consider running a large event.

I don't think Chicago is too far from Ottawa. People come from all over to go to ICES conventions. Count me in!

This is such a great idea! Chicago would be good for me. Hmmm, 2007...leaves plenty of time for planning!
