how do I make pearl icing?

Hi all,

I just saw some cookies in the photo gallery that used "pearl" icing for decorating.

Does anyone know how I can get the pearlescent effect? It looks soooo good!

I used luster dust to get the pearl look. Actually I think it is called Pearl dust. For the wedding cookies I just brushed it on without using the liquid. Othertimes I have used luster dust mixed with vodka.

Texastwinkie, the cookies with the pearl icing were done by acookieobsession. I followed the link to her website....very impressive!

I have used Pearl Dust on the dried B/C icing. Just use it dry with a very soft painting brush and use it very gently as to don't mess the decoration. I've also brushed it over a fondant covered cake like in the last cake I posted here. For script just mix it either with lemon extract or vodka. You can also spread it with a brush inside the icing bag close to the tip so that when the icing is being pushed through the tip, it carries traces of the dust with it. HTH
