Hi Everyone.....
Well, we had my other niece's fairytale princess tea party at my house today. It went off beautifully!! Everything was pink!! (even the PB and J sandwiches...made good use of the wilton color spray).
Anyway, my hub and I collaborated on another Storybook Cake scene. This time, we did "Thumbelina". He hand sculpted the cake toppers out of Sculpey, so she could have them forever, and he painted the most whimsical background that goes along with the Thumbelina story (which happens to be my favorite fairy tale).
There were actually two cakes this time. The first was Thumbelina sitting in a flower on the riverbank, which was actually all buttercream, except for the gumpaste accents and chocolate sprinkles. The 2nd cake was a toad on a lily pad, which was hand-painted fondant with a gumpaste waterlily. The reeds and cattails in the background were gumpaste. The butterflies were from the store (I ran out of time!). I have to say, we are really proud of this one!!
My niece loved it!! I am posting just one photo here, but you can see all of the upclose details on my website. Just click this link:

Anyway, thanks for peeking!!

Wow and double wow again, went to your site to view all of the pictures too. This is another spectacular creation, simply amazing again! Love the set up too, haha the fairytale theme with the chairs and everything fitting in. The picture of the children looking at it in amazement is really special! Incredible work from both of you!

thank-you for the great feedback. I just watched the holiday cake challenge on foodtv, and boy, the work of those professionals makes me realize that I'm still quite the peon. Oh well.......I had a blast making it, and thanks, Squirrelly, the girls had so much fun at the party!
I don't know how to say what I want to say. Words can say how beautiful you both work together. You both have a wonderful gift.

You know, it is getting so I am looking forward to what you two are going to do next. You have become a topic of conversation for me. Your work is pure genius!

TOTALLY AMAZING !!! My husband and I thought at first it was a picture that you painted (which would be exceptional work to say the least) but when we saw the cakes in there we were (and still are) totally amazed I can't believe all the beautiful cakes that you make !
Ellen that is beautiful!! Thumbelina is my favorite story too!! WOW!! You guys did a wonderful job!!!
Here's another WOW!!! What a beautiful job. I went to your website also and loved seeing all the individual photos. You don't get the sense of how big the cake is until you see the children standing next to it.
I bet your neices are already making plans for their next birthday!!!!!
Cindy
P.S.--Don't sell yourself short, your work is just as good and I THINK BETTER than a most of the cake decorators I've seen on the Cake Challenge...I bet we'll be seeing you on there at some point!!!
Again, all the positive comments are very much appreciated. Cindy, not so sure about that...those cake artists are amazing. I've got a very long way to go. I'm just lucky I married a fantastic, wonderful artist who's cooperative and interested in the cake biz. (And he does whatever I tell him---mwa-ha-ha-ha!! ) He's really game for my ideas. It'd not be so outstanding without his art. Anyway, thanks again...
PS---I also wanted to tell you that I am going to post the pics to my photos page here when I get home from work so that they are on my profile. Thanks again!!
Wow!! I had to look three times to find the cake...Its amazing when even cake decorators can't spot the cake This is absolutely gorgeous...you and your husband are going to be very famous someday!! I look forward to your next masterpiece!
OMG! Your work is just amazing!! The close up pics are too! I can't wait to see your next creation!
Thank you! We are flattered and encouraged by all the neat feedback, especially knowing it comes from other ultra-talented people-.
Wendy, no problem. I could add your link to my website also...I believe my husband has a links page on it. I'll have to ask him how to do that.
I love all the artwork involved in your cakes it makes them sooo very unique!!!! You and your husband did an amazing job on this I absolutly love it!!!
GREAT GOOGLIE MOOGLIES! Let me just add "Ditto, ditto, ditto!" Your display is so awesome. I'll bet your niece was completely enchanted with it! Glad to see that you have registered your storybook cake phrase too. It never hurts to think ahead!! I agree with the others, you and DH will be famous cake artists someday, and all of us here at CC will be able to say we knew you back when. LOL
