They're beautiful! I can't wait to take my class!
(So only 1 night out of 4 is working on the flowers? What do you do on the other 3 nights?)

Well...the first night we talked about fondant/gumpaste...then we covered a 12" round in fondant...and that was it. It took all of 30-45 minutes...not impressed.
the second night we did the handkerchief, the twisty swags and the drape on a pre fondant covered cake...done in about 1 hour and a half...
and finally on the third night we made flowers...I think we were done in 1 and a half hours last night as well...
I'll post a link from what we did in the second class and you can have a boo for yourself. Cheers
Here it is...this is what happened on the second night of the gumpaste class...

Your flowers look great. I thought that was what we'd do for all four classes but I was wrong. Went to first class last Saturday and you're right just a review of fondant from Course 3 and learned to cover cake board. I was supposed to go to second class today but teacher was sick and had to postpone. Now what do I do with my fondant covered cake! Can you refrigerate or freeze a cake that has been covered in fondant? Will it hold up for a week? I hate to have to make another one for next week and waste this one.
I love the carnation.
I am waiting for a call back from the place I took classes at to see if they will be offering this class. I really hope they do.
Good job !! I want to take this course, but ....sigh... it's not offered anywhere near me
Flowers look great. I am taking that class too and this week was the flowers and it was cancelled due to the snow. Cannot wait until we reschedule. You have me so excited for the next class.
Those are great flowers. We are making them this Fri. I think that this will probably be the best part of the course. The other days have been very very basic fondant techniques. I wish it were a little more challenging with more gum paste flowers.
We didn't bring anything with us the first night...teacher brought some fondant and showed us marbleing and demonstrated covering a dummy cake with fondant. She also showed us how to make the daisy since we had SO much extra time.
2nd class we brought in covered cakes, went over carnation bases, handkerchief, drapes, swags and a few other things.
Next week we are finishing up the carnations, making favor boxes and she brought out a gumpaste flower book, told us to pick a couple of flowers and we will work on those too.
She's said she's going to try and work in a project class or a Cakes for Kids class and we'll do only gumpaste flowers since that is what we all want to do. There are 5 of us who have taken all her classes together and we want to learn more flowers...actual flowers not Fantasy flowers!
Wow, what beautiful flowers, can't wait to finally take the class!!! They all look soo pretty!! Congrats everybody!
Great job! They all look really nice.
minnow: I wouldn't freeze a cake already covered in fondant. I guess you can leave it on the counter top for a week. I hope you do not have to refrigerate the cake otherwise you should make a nother cake for next class.
bivianna,
just wanted to say thanks for your advice on not freezing the cake but had already done so before seeing your reply. i took it out thursday evening before the saturday class. by friday morning it was a little sticky but still ok. by friday evening some of the color kinda "melted" off the band i put around the cake to hide my creases i couldn't get out. the melting was so small as to be able to be covered by a border. by saturday it was still ok and i was able to attach my drape, handkerchief, and garland just fine. later saturday evening we cut into it and the cake was ok and tasted good. so i'm grateful it worked out but believe me i don't intend, God willing, to ever freeze a fondant covered cake again. i might not be as lucky if i did.
thought i'd share this with ya'll. thanks.
I love them! I need to take this class. I took a one day gum paste flowers class back in July, but now that Wilton is offering the gum paste and fondant, I want to take it. I love those fantasy flowers. Just beautiful.
