I must be stupid as I have not tried my first fondant cake yet ( I will be doing that this week ) But I need to make 9 egg cakes and they would look SO much better in fondant so I thought I would use the mmfondant

Ok so far so good ...but after I drape it over the top of the egg how do I smooth it and get it to come back to fit around the bottom????

do I cut the extra folds and smooth it back together?

I agree that fondant would look much nicer! First make sure you cover the cakes (which I suggest you put on a cake board that is cut to shape) with a thin coat of icing, measure out your fondant, roll it out and drape if over the cakes. you can smooth it with a fondant smoother or just use your hands. You can "work it" smooth around the sides for a nice tight fit. Use a pizza cutter and cut away the extras

Sounds easy!!! I worried about that problem too, and I asked on here about it and received great responses! Mrs. Missey, how do you smooth around a square shaped cake? I want to do this next, but how much extra fondant do I roll out for it to lay neatly? I figured it out on the round cakes, but my mind just can't comprehend the square for some reason.

I just posted my "package cake" today. The top cake was a 6" square and 3" high. Add the height of the two sides and the width and that tells you the size fondant you need to roll out. In my case is was 3+ 3 + 6 = 12" square! The Wilton yearbooks tell you the approximate weight of fondant you need to cover a specific size cake.

Put it on top of the cake and work with it, I don't make any cuts, except to cut off the bottom. The fondant will smooth around a square cake just fine...take your time, you'll see!
