Well, the "General" category could be for all non-categorized topics regarding cakes and confections. The "Lounge" (or a cute name for it could be the Tea Room icon_biggrin.gif) would be for threads about getting new kittens, what traditions people have for holiday dinners, etc., etc., etc.

It seems sad to want to discourage off-topic discussion. A community of friends has grown here and it would be nice for there to be an area where people could gather to socialize and chat about non-cake stuff...with the rule being no threads discussing religion or politics. icon_biggrin.gif

..that is something that is being addressed. We have already gone thru and re-sorted the wedding photos!! Hopefully we will get to hit the Birthday Cake section real soon!!

Just a point of clarification please, I didn't realize but perhaps the General section was meant strictly for General Cake Discussion and not a catch all for general discussion about anything and everything. Is that what you mean, that it was strictly meant for discussion that were general in nature but only about cakes and baking and decorating?
Would you please clarify if this is what you meant? If so, I for one apologize because I tend to be probably the world's worst poster for chatting in this area. I hadn't really realized that it wasn't meant for a more general discussion.

No, it is not intended to only be for cake decorating, it is currently the appropriate place for non-cake related posts.

There has just never been a true off-topic forum area as jackie expressed that she did not want to encourage alot of off-topic posting, mostly to avoid politics and religion conversations.

My statements earlier were based on comments jackie has made to me in the past. However, as this community has become such a family, I am re-addressing the possibility with her.

We will continue to discuss whether or not we want to add a "Lounge area" and we will let the community know when we decide.

I always thought the General section was for general topics that where cake related. I really would love a section for all the OT stuff. It gets to be a pain weeding through all the OT stuff just to find a actual cake thread. icon_confused.gif

I agree with KatieBug. People will post OT threads because this has become a community to so many - why not give them their own place. This will only keep them on the website MORE, and that must be a good thing, right?

I would also love an expanded section on the home page - instead of the last 5 forum posts, how about increasing it?

I can see why Jackie wants to be cautious about a forum for non-cake related things.
If someone were to start posting political threads that were bashing the government in a severe way, this site could be taken down forever, or she could get in trouble with the government in some way shape or form icon_eek.gif
I would hate to see Jackie get in trouble for something that she did not do.

I vote against a "lounge area" I think it would cause some fifts in the CC family. Working in customer service, I find that once you get a bad impression about someone, it sticks with them for a very long time. Then again, I might be wrong and nobody takes offense to what somebody else said. I hope it makes sense.

Phoov.....LOL. Very funny question!! I think Squrielly means that if red and blue are going to mix, it is best done ONLY with food coloring. icon_wink.gif

I have been guilty of putting everything in general. I will from now on do my best to figure out which category my thread fits into and place it there.

There are actually discussion forums and blogs devoted entirely to bashing the gov't. In this country, you can say just about anything about the gov't without fear. But I agree with the others. Politics and religion are topics that can easily get heated and out of control. Heck...we get heated about cake decorating sometimes icon_smile.gif
