Here is a Horn of Plenty cake I made tonight for Thanksgiving. The basket is royal icing. The cake is dark chocolate with buttercream. The pumpkins are ding-dongs covered with buttercream. The grapes are hollow gum paste. The leaves are buttercream and gumpaste. The corn is chocolate cake with buttercream.

Yes..enter it in the contest. WOW....I can see light through the weave..really looks like a woven basket. Good job..no, great job!
Wow! I saw your post under Thanksgiving desserts and was wondering what was edible! Great job!
This is such a great cake. I love it. It is very professional. I am in awe.
Thanks for making this cake. This is the kind of cake that inspires me.
I was just showing your picture to my Mother. I would love to know how you did that basket.
Remarkable! That sure looks like a real wicker cornucopia--I can't imagine trying to get royal to behave like that! Fantastic work!
Thank you all for your kind words.
Here is how I did it ........ Ken
for the basket:
I fastened blocks of green styrofoam together with dowels, then shaped them by carving with a serated knife then sanded them smooth. I marked where my main lines would be using a black marker. I then took it apart and covered the individual sections with clear plastic sheet cut from food bags and taped down. I piped the basketweave onto the plastic using the marks as a guide. For this you use royal icing. Once the indiidual parts are dry you remove them from the mold and fasten them together with some of the roysl icing. Its easier than it sounds.
for the pumpkins:
I bought Hostes Ding-Dongs. then piped buttercream onto them. Smoothed the crevases using a soft bristle brush.
for the grapes:
I used gumpaste. I made them hollow by trapping a little air and then working it thinner and thinner. (small success rate.)
for the corn:
I piped butter cream corn onto pieces of cake trimmings using a #7 tip.
Wow, that is truly incredible. Looks so real, absolutely perfect, the basket and the food. Looks so realistic, this is impressive work. Gee, that is absolutely the most amazing basket I have ever seen!
